I just finished my second year of University, in September I will be in my third year. This year I’m taking summer courses for the first time ever (from May 1 to June 17).
I read on the Internet about the experiences of others and many wrote how much they struggled with two summer courses because there’s obviously less time in the summer semester.
The problem is that I am an International Student, so I pay three times more tuition than Canadians and paying that much tution over the summer for just one course (the same as I would pay for two courses!) is a waste.
I have to say though that so far, University is less stressful and challenging than my high school was and I’m getting A+ only. Maybe the people who thought 2 summer courses were too much also struggled in general/ during normal semesters?
So is it true that you should not take more than one class over the summer if you want at least an A, better A+? Or did you find it doable? Which course load would you recommend over the summer?
It always depends on the student and the courses. Some colleges have quarters during which students take fewer classes in a compressed time frame and they still earn As. If you are a strong motivated student, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to handle two courses in nearly seven weeks.
How long is the somer semester and how many courses are you taking at once?

Remember that a normal class is 3 credits over 15 weeks. You are expected to do 2-3 hours of homework/reading/studying for every hour in class. So you should expect a class to take 9-12 hours x 15 weeks.
If you have an 8 week summer session you have to do the class in half the time…so a class would take 18-24 hours per week.
If you take two classes it would be 32-48 hours per week which is like a full time job.
You have to have the time to dedicate to this and nothing else. You have to keep up and not fall behind because the class moves twice as quick.
So if it is 8 weeks class, it is possibel that you could take 2. If it is a 4 week class, only take one class at a time.
