2 Writing Questions?

<p>1) The reason I will not be going to Mexico this year is because I will use up all my travel money attending an important meeting in Singapore. </p>

<p>Wouldn't attending be changed to to attend? </p>

<p>2) If you were to work at least four hours a day on the project, we would complete it in a shorter time, and with less problems.</p>

<p>I don't understand when to use would and will, I thought the would part was wrong because would doesn't go with present tense. </p>

<li><p>The most glaring problem here is “the reason . . . is because”; once you spot that, your work is done. As to “attending” vs. “to attend,” those are often interchangeable. In this case, there is a slight difference in meaning, but not enough to consider one correct and the other incorrect.</p></li>
<li><p>“would” is in the subjunctive mode because it follows “if.” Simply learn the pattern: “If [stuff], [stuff] would [stuff].”</p></li>
