My parents probably know more details about this than I do, but I am the only one that regularly checks these forums. A few of the schools (3) have requested 2005 taxes from my family (my mom and dad are divorced). Those weren't available (and still arent.. until April 15th) because my mother and father are self employed, but at the time of the application it said we can include the 2005 taxes "if available"... so we opted to send the 2004 because they were ready. We estimated the income for the year 2005, even though nothing is concrete. Must those three colleges, and will most of the others, require my parents' 2005 taxes before i get financial aid?

Call the FAO's and explain the situation. See what their response is.

I agree you should call the finaid offices. My understanding is that final financial aid offers are not made until the 2005 taxes have been filed and the FAFSA (and if necessary the Profile) have been amended. Anything you are offered before that time would be an estimate. To be honest, if your parents can possibly complete their taxes ASAP that would be to your benefit. The year you are going to be a freshman is NOT the year to wait until April 15 to file.

Right-- when you completed FAFSA, you checked the 'will file taxes' box for your parent's taxes, instead of the 'have filed' box. So the FAO's know that the EFC is an estimate, and their aid offers will remain estimates until you amend the FAFSA and change it to "have filed". Then you get a final EFC, the colleges get the final EFC, and they firm up the offers. They may also ask for your tax returns to verify.

thank you for your help :-p
