Made it in! Yay

Proudparent-
I had understood that NM and Presidential Scholars did not weigh in the SAT I writing because their "windows" (the administrartion dates for which they would consider SAT Is) included some time in which the old SAT I (pre-writing section) was still being administered. Unless they ignored the writng sections, they were going to be comparing apples with oranges (arguably they were anyway as the math section got harder on the new SAT I and the whole test got longer and thus more grueling). At some point (but I haven't studied the windows so I don't know when it will be), the old SAT Is will be outside of the windows and, at that point, I would expect the writing section to count (as it has on the PSAT for NM ever since the writing section was introduced on the PSAT, since everyone competing was taking a three-part PSAT at that point).

P.S. Proudparent-
Start following the outside scholarships for seniors this year so that your daugter will be familiar with the likely application timeframes and what she might need to win. Also, if her guidance counselor has the time for a junior, it might help to ask now about what local scholarships might be worth applying for next year.

Thanks Grace. We are following local scholarships but we have a new Christian high school in our town and it seems there is some prejudice against it from those who believe in only public education. I am particularly paying attention to those colleges that would give my daughter a good education while also rewarding her with merit scholarships. Since we have put 4 kids through Christian schools from kinder-high school we have no college savings for them. Our belief was that if they were well educated they could get many scholarships. So far it is paying off. God is good! Before anyone misunderstands, I believe parents are the ones who should decide if their children should attend private, public, or are home schooled. Scholarships should be based upon accomplishment, not what school someone attended. Just my 2 cents.

im in texas and i got the letter in the mail at home today.

i havent been at school since tuesday cuz im sick...but i think the guidance counselor probably knew before today. im pretty sure the other 4 kids probably made it too.

DD received notification today (at home and through the school - the schools were closed Mon-Wed). Yay!

parent of 4,

Isn't it nice that god allows public school kids scholarships too? :)

Congrats, but please don't knock even if it's real nice like, another person's choice for their kids education. God's good to alot of people, even non christians.

My daughter received her NMF letter today! :-)

haha yay I finally received NMF letter in the mail here in Texas!
No thanks to my school.

My brother also received notification today. He's quite relieved (considering he got a 1980 SAT when his PSAT was a 218) :P

haven't gotten anything yet =(
and no notice from school either

MA... still waiting

Same here, takeme2cali.

im a finalist, pa

I wonder what's taking so long....

are people sure that if we were rejected, we'd have been notified already???

I'm worried

finalist, MI

I read somewhere online that they send out rejection notices in January (and I know someone who got one)

Kaseyditz, Did they say why? OpiefromMayberry, I sorry if my reply sounded offensive, it was definitely not intended.

:) I apologize too. Congrats for you and your kids.

I have two nmf and they both are at wonderful schools I could have never afforded. Good luck, because things are going to be soo good it's hard.

Proudparent: The letter doesn't cite a specific reason.. it just says the generic "unfortunately we have many wonderful candidates blah blah you didn't make the cut blah sorry"

I think it was because of my friend's GPA though.. I think he's an absolute genius but he doesn't care to really do school work if he thinks it's a waste of his time

Thanks, My son was commended several years ago, which was the first we knew of all of this. Now that my dd looks like she will be a semifinalist in the fall, reading these posts are all I know about what she will experience. I am so excited and am really enjoying every getting their notices for being finalists. Hopefully it will be my daughters turn next Feb.
