2007 USNEWS Rankings!

highschoolpremed writes, Go Uchicago!! I agree! (Even if we're not particularly a premed school, you do realize that, don't you?)

Others were wondering what radical thing had happened at Chicago to cause the change in rankings. Actually, nothing changed. But in filling out the USNWR data, they finally added our library expenses to the academic resources (a cool 40 million right there), and there were dozens of little things like that. People (especially alumni) were fed up with the nonsense ranking and decided to start paying attention.
We're still way lower than we deserve, but at least it's better than it was (not that we pay attention to rankings, of course:-)).

"We're still way lower than we deserve"

..............................

Relative rankings are important too. We're lower than we deserve but at least we're higher than that school in Evanston with the football team:-)

I haven't found anyone who has posted the risers and fallers (so to say) among the LACs. Would anyone be good enough to enlighten us on the gainers and losers for this year's rankings among the LACs?

“We're lower than we deserve but at least we're higher than that school in Evanston with the football team:-)”

Oh yea?! Well, we have two beaches… Ha! Take that! :)

a football team and two beaches! How good does it get?
Seriously, you guys also have better music performance programs than we do. It all adds up..

What the heck happened to jhu? it fell 3 steps! cant believe jhu is behind northwestern and Wash U. No offense to people who attend there, but I think that jhu should tie at least with cornell.

and congrats to Chicago.....hell, chicago actually ranked 8th in the WORLD in Times reports.......

and i think u chicago deserves more than 9th....

"cant believe jhu is behind northwestern and Wash U. No offense to people who attend there, but I think that jhu should tie at least with cornell."

Why do you think this?

kk19131...

jhu may be a small school, but honestly lots of their programs seem to be better than those at wash u or northwestern....

theres no need to say about medical/bio field, but people seem to underrate jhu's humanities programs a bit.

i dont know a lot about wash u and so forth, but given reputation and research records and etc......dont u think jhu should be put ahead of them?

again, i have no grudege against your school or anything....i actually got into your school but going to jhu to do international relations.

but hopkins at 16th? come on.....

"i dont know a lot about wash u and so forth, but given reputation and research records and etc......dont u think jhu should be put ahead of them?"

If you don’t know much about WashU and Northwestern, how can you make claims about their research and reputation?

I don’t think you have any sort of grudge against Northwestern or WashU, but I do think you have a bias toward Hopkins. Do you have any proof to back up your belief that it should be higher than NU and WashU, or is this just a belief?

well, considering academic research records and so forth....

Hopkins has the best medical school, best international relations prgrm, and top humanitie prgrams as well......and 11th most nobel prizes in the world (31)

and as well as peer assessment at 4.6/5.0 both higher that that of wustl and etc.

may be I am biased, and may be i m completely wrong judging a school based on those records, but i really do think that 16th is sort of embarassing....

what happened that it fell 3 steps? i m really wondering.....

ok, perhaps wustl and northwestern cannot be put behind jhu. but 16th? no matter who's behind or ahead of jhu, 16th may be too big of a drop.

Damn someone already mentioned it, but I got a quote from Yahoo news about Chicago's rise

"Many colleges criticize the rankings, but they take them seriously. The University of Chicago, facing complaints from alumni about its ranking, says this year it re-examined figures it was submitting in categories such as financial resources and concluded it was underreporting. The school's ranking shot up from 15th to No. 9."

so does that mean determining the rank depends on a significant degree on the school itself, not on outside evaluators? ha ha ha..........

that's, well.......stupid....-_-;;;

but i dont think these rankings are not complete bs either.

guess you better believe only part of it....like it is the case with every other thing in the world......hmm.

thanks much.

what does it say about university of washington (seattle)

After seeing how Chicago conspired with US News to have its ranking raised this year, I think other schools are going to follow suit and “discover” new ways to report their data. The larger the ability of schools to manipulate the data that go into the rankings, the more bs the rankings become. People claim that WashU’s tactics for rising in the rankings are dirty, but Chicago seemed to flat out cheat.
