This is a really random and trivial question but I was just curious:

I use MS Word 2007. Since I will be attaching word documents for the essay and addition information sections on common app, can I just save my word documents in the 2007 format or should I save as an older style word document. I know that many of my school's computers use 2003 which can't open 2007 so i save in the older format. I am paranoid because if I save in 2007 and some college adcom computers still use 2003, they can't see my files -_-.

Many, many other students won’t worry about this type of thing. You don’t think college adcoms would just allow such a large percentage of their applicant pool to just not be considered at all, do you? ;)

When you upload your documents to the Common App Online they will be converted to PDFs then attached to your application. No need to worry about what version of Word you use.

When did the Common App help desk say that? Common App just upgraded this recently. This is text directly from the instructions on the window for uploading your document:

“The file cannot exceed 500 KB in size and should be in .doc, .docx, .wpd, .rtf, .xls, .xlsx, .pdf, or .txt format.”
