2009 Admissions

Is admissions for next year anticipated to be easier, tougher, or about the same as this year?

I've heard both..

They have been consistently harder every year in recent memory, as is common throughout all Top 20 schools. I would find it hard to believe that it will be any easier next year.

Next year Notre Dame will be accepting the common application along with a supplement of their own. They expect applications to increase by 10% to 30%
I agree that it is only going to get more difficult. And.. if Notre Dame has a more successful football season, that will only add to the interest.

It's definitely going to be harder, since ND will be using the CommonApp, as momtofour mentioned. Also, I remember reading somewhere in a ND Observer newspaper article that every successive class for the past 5 years or so has had higher average standardized test scores and other credentials than the class before them. But it's just basic economics really--there is a much higher demand (that is increasing) for spots at Top 20 schools (that are not increasing) than there are spots for students, so the standards will naturally be higher.

Good luck, though.

it will be rough. according to plenty of studies, this was supposed to be the hardest year ever in applications both in the past and in the foreseeable future. however, this is not the case for ND.

ND will be making the transition to the Common App and things will become extremely hard. I am glad God blessed me being in this past class because i don't know how things would work if I were to apply in 2009.

however, it's nothing that should stop u from applying. you will never know if you dont try, and theres probably always a little more hope than you would think.

whatever the result, you can always be part of the ND family and best of luck!

it will be tough, but not impossible. The acceptance rate this year was 24%, which is still about 10% below avg. ivy. Next year, im guessing the acceptance rate will dip to about 20%, maybe barely sub 20%. This is tough, but not impossible. Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, Caltech: those are impossible.
