I recently heard some people talking about how "admissions are harder than ever, but will become easier for the class of 2010." Is there any factual or statistical basis for this?

i have seen numbers that show the class of '09 being the largest graduating senior class (nationally) ever

The graduating population is like a wide parabola where the class of '09 (for High School) is the vertex. Class of '10 will be marginally easier.

I heard that '08 was the hardest.

'08 was the hardest yet, but unfortunately, '09 is expected to be even more difficult.

Even if 09 is the crest demographically, it's not as if there'll be any significant easing of the app numbers, IMHO. I think it will continue to increase. The no. of apps to HYP has roughly doubled over the last decade -- due in part to the stupefying "rankings" frenzy, in part due to the Common App and just more information available, in part to Int'l students REALLY considering in large numbers applying to top US schools and in part due to the outreach and FA efforts by HYP.

Any decline due to the slightly shrinking demographic will be more than surpassed by the features above, IMHO.

hmmm... just found this!
