2010 Boarding School Rankings?

My son recently decided he very much wants to go to boarding school, and, being Quakers, we decided to visit Westtown and The George School. We also visited one other school, Colorado Rocky Mountain Schoo (CRMS)l. This is a school I recommend to the person looking for something a bit less traditional, especially if your child likes or is at least open to outdoorsy sports like skiing, mountain climbing, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, etc. I was also quite impressed by their art department. We were leaning towards one of the Quaker schools, assuming, based on average SAT scores, that the kids were smarter. I was surprised to find out that CRMS had significantly better scores on the SSAT, a test my son never took because of his late decision to apply. (The schools are using his PSAT scores instead.) Now, I’m wondering if I had made a mistake in assuming that CRMS’s students were less academically inclined.

CRMS is an amazing school! i was going to go there but i decided it was to close to our second home (30 min from aspen) it is an AMAZING campus with some of the smartest and coolest kids i know. i have a lot of friends that graduated from there and loved it. It is a great school, but in no way should it be compared to he east coast school. I go to sps right now and they are just two different types of schools made for two very diffrent types of people

Hotchkiss is not up there with Exeter and Andover.
Also, Peddie AND Georgetown Prep are not nearly on par with schools like Lawrenceville and Groton. Furthermore, Lawrenceville, Groton, and a few other schools probably deserve a boot up.
sorry exoveerotch but your rankings are flawed.

@Kaboots: I had the opportunity to take a close look at Hotchkiss during my daughter’s application process and revisit. Although my daughter did not choose to attend, I was very impressed all around. Hotchkiss has absolutely first rate facilities, very few day students (a big plus), and has just converted to an integrated humanities curriculum. In addition, Hotchkiss brought on Dr. Kevin Hicks as Dean of Faculty prior to the 2010-11 year. I’d feel very confident about the trajectory of Hotchkiss’ academic offerings from what I’ve seen.

Why is NMH considered “the bottom of the best,” and ranked with Porter’s? I had heard from multiple (opinionated, I grant you) sources saying that NMH was a first-tier school.

Rankings are a moot point. Enough said.

Remember, these “rankings” are largely the machinations of thirteen year olds who spend waay too much time on this forum. :D

The Eight Schools Association is like the Ivy League for high schools and comprises the top prep schools in the country. However, there are some schools that are outstanding that aren’t on this list and should still be considered “top.”

People often just like to equate quality with prestige.
