2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Is this an update for the gerstner sloan kettering application? Because I haven’t heard anything from them, and also that application was only due 2 days ago…I’m not sure how long it takes for admissions to review applications though

I wish I never would have been told about that update on the Sloan kettering app. It just gave me another place to check and exercise my neurotic tendencies haha. I’m assuming that the presence/absence of a reviewer simply demonstrates that that reviewer has completed your application. Suggesting interviewers certainly can’t be bad, but I’m not convinced it’s the sure fire interview invite (that I desperately wish it was). My reviewer recommended two professors whom were on my preferred list, whom I also mentioned in my SOP. Hopefully this is just great news for all of us

Good luck everyone, maybe we’ll hear before the new year?

molbio: UCSF Tetrad has also been swamped with applications. They received 50% more applications than average (450 completed apps or so compared to 300 usually). Also, because this year’s class was larger than anticipated, they are looking for a smaller class next year – especially with the recent budget issues in the UC system. I anticipate it will be much more competitive for this program than in years prior.

That said, the increase in applications is probably a global phenomenon. I’m not sure how unique Tetrad’s situation is (except for the aforementioned class size issue) compared to other programs.

dd2200 - would you happen to know how big the matriculated class at ucsf (tetrad) usually is?

i apologize for adding another level of stress into your lives by telling you about the sloan-kettering application

emailed the program director of the upenn cellular and developmental biology program and was told that they will be reviewing the first batch of apps this week and send out invitations at the end of the week. good luck everybody and congrats to all of you who have received invitations.

That’s good, I’d love to hear back from UPenn before the new year as well.

Does anyone know the general time line for Northwestern IGP or Chicago Cancer Bio? My girlfriend was recently accepted to UIC Med, so Chicago is on the top of the list.

Mainly neuroscience, pharmacology, or psychology?

UVA
UNC Chapel Hill
Princeton
Yale
Harvard
UCLA
UNIV of Miami
VCU Pharmtox
NYU
Brown
UCSF
ASU
U of Texas at Austin

Thanks!! (I saw some of you had heard on Baylor – congrats!) Getting worried…

Hi all,

Anyone have info on BU Bioinformatics with regard to interviews or admissions stats this year?

my friend just told me that UNC called her for an interview last thursday.

My stats…

Major: Biology at a top school
GPA: 3.4
GRE: Verbal 630/80%, Math 740/80%, Writing 5.0/81%
Research experience: 1 full year in a lab during undergrad, one summer REU, two nearly year-long research experiences after graduation - all microbiology labs.
Publications: Co-author on one publication, one submitted paper (both from undergrad), working on several more…

Applying to Microbiology programs at:

Harvard
UC Berkeley
MIT
U Washington Seattle
U Chicago
Yale
Stanford
Tufts

Just finished the last of the applications today - now the waiting begins! I haven’t heard anything from schools yet. I’m a bit nervous about my choice of schools, not sure if I should have picked out a few more…

Are there any other micro people out there??

Just got an email from U Michigan PIBS (deadline was 12/1):

“Thank you for applying to the University of Michigan Program in Biomedical Sciences. I would like to confirm for you that your application is complete and has been submitted for review. We will keep you posted throughout the review process and notify you of your application’s status towards the end of the month.”

Yay, more waiting! :D

yup, same here. i submitted to umich the day before the deadline. hope we hear back from them soon!

In case anyone is interested, the Princeton Neuroscience adcom is meeting on the 16th to discuss who may get interviews and the UNC Behavioral Neuroscience (psychology) adcom is meeting on the 17th.

Also the same here…Umich PIBS…

I think we may get overreacting…And waiting is really a suffering thing.

I’m expecting Penn-CAMB-Genetics, WashU-DBBS-Genetics, BCM-MHG, all of which would give out interviews in early or mid Jan.

Anyone who also applied the three mentioned above?

It has been 2 weeks since I submitted my application to Weill Cornell but my transcript is still written as ‘not received’ even though the other parts of the application were confirmed. Does it happen to any of you who submitted the applications close to the deadline? I’m debating whether I should call them or just wait for another week.

selpunca,

i would call them and have them check. if you check with them and you have confirmation regarding the submission of your transcript from your school, they will try to be understanding if your transcript was lost. however, if you fail to check-in and alert them, i have a feeling that the blame could be put on you somehow…

Problem is solved. It turned out that they just had not updated the status. Thanks bikohcello.

just to let people know, I received interview requests from:

Pittsburgh CNUP (Neuroscience) [12/4]–by telephone
University of Washington-Seattle (Neurobiology and Behavior) [12/12]–by e-mail

And I did receive that e-mail (December 1) from WashU DBBS–about five or six days after my application was complete. I have yet to hear anything else.

Other apps that I have not heard back from:
Kentucky IBS
UTSW DBS
Johns Hopkins Neuroscience
Harvard Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program
Oregon Health and Science PMCB
UCSF Neuroscience
Northwestern NUIN
UT Health and Science San Antonio IMGP

Has anyone who submitted their WUSTL app close-ish to the deadline received ‘one of those emails’? Thanks!

LAC, I submitted my WUSTL-DBBS app right around Dec 1st and haven’t heard anything. :(
