2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

This might be a long post, but I gotta get this out sorry. Here’s your warning :P.

So my application process is alittle complicated since I have to consider my girlfriend who is applying to med school. She’s gotten into UIC and NYU. So far all of my interviews are in CA or UNC. She was rejected from UNC a few days ago, so I’ll be declining the interview. I’m excited that I’ve gotten so many interviews, but so far none of them overlap with where she has gotten in! I am excited, but damn this is frustrating.

So today I was sent an email from UCSF BMS for an interview invite. I’m absolutely shocked, and I was excited but I have a TON of mixed feelings. She was rejected from UCSF a few weeks ago, so there is no shot she will end up there. I am probably going to go because it sounds like fun. But damn I need to hear from a school in Chicago or NYC. I am running out of schools that AREN’T in those cities haha. I know this comes off that I am bragging, or I am ungrateful. Trust me, I couldn’t be more grateful that I have gotten so many interivews so early, I just want one to overlap with her acceptances. blah

Anyway, sorry for venting. Good luck everyone and Congrats to those of you hearing from places! (Especially you Cornell guys, I’m jealous haha)

Applied: NYU, Cornell, Sloan kettering, Rockefeller, UPenn, UChicago, Northwestern, Wake Forest, UNC, UCLA, UCSD, UCSF, USC, Vanderbilt.
Interviews: UNC, UCLA, UCSD, UCSF, Vanderbilt
Rejected: None

EDIT: I forgot. Will schools accept updated transcripts? I got my best grades ever this semester, and I’d really like to update them. This was my first 4.0 since 3rd grade haha.

EDIT 2: CONGRATS Hamster! What a day!

Only those that already want a midyear report. The only one I know that does is Princeton.

GCN2,

congrats on your ucsf bms interview! you might have mentioned this before, but are you a domestic or international applicant? thanks.

I am a domestic applicant.

Is UCSF done sending out interview invites?

yay! also rcvd invite from ucsf bms yesterday

i wonder what % of interviewees are offered acceptance in a typical graduate school program? any idea?

A few years ago, MIT said they interviewed about a third of applicants, and accepted about two-thirds of those they interviewed. Of course, those percentages would not be the same if there were a jump in applications, because the number of spots are more or less fixed by the number of training grant spots a program has available.

Generally speaking, schools accept most of those they interview – they wouldn’t spend the money to fly you out and wine/dine you if they weren’t seriously considering you. About 65-75% accepted is typical, although not universal.

lol nutmeg, are you still without a single invite like me? life sucks.

I am without a single invite too! But I am not losing hope, around January 15th I might break down into a puddle of tears, but until then…

biophd

Yup, no invites or any sign of life from the schools I applied to. I am assuming the worst. UCSF was one of the schools I really wanted to go to.

I’m under the impression that no program sends out interview invites over the course of only a single week, let alone a single day. Many programs haven’t even begun offering interviews yet, and the rest that have will probably continue to do so through at least the first half of January.

funny, i was really considering applying to ucsf. but i got lazy and didn’t finish the application cuz the essay had to be really short.

Is BMS more popular than Tetrad?

Yeah, I think it is.

hm, apparently harvard neuroscience sent out interview invites.

darn…should have applied to UCs :)

btw any internationals heard from Yale MCGD track?

Oncogene,
Does Cornell have any other weekends? Or just that one on Feb 17-19? Also anyone know about UPenn or Chicago interview weekends?

they just have one…but for some reason they sent out invites to just internationals (from what I see in this forum)… So dont worry.

MolSysBio: Harvard neuroscience interview invites!!! Man… Hopefully there’s more to come.

Anyone else applied to University of Minnesota, Mayo Clinic, or Dartmouth?
