2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Molliebatmit (or anyone else who knows):

Do schools allow for interviews on a separate date if you can’t make either weekend due to interviews booked at other schools already? Or do you just have to rescind your application at one of the three schools? If you can get an alternate interview, what is the best way to ask for this (email, phone call)?

Also, I looked for info on percent accepted after interviewed listed by school or program (not just a general overall number), but I couldn’t find it anywhere (combed last year’s threads, etc.). Can anyone assist?

Lastly, does anyone know when the dates for interviews are for: MIT Biology, Caltech Biology, and Harvard MCB?

congrats to those who have received interviews! for the people who received invitations to gsk, when did you guys submit and are you international or domestic? thanks!

pocketrocket - Yes, you can ask about getting an alternate interview time. Some programs seem more strict than others, though. Just be honest: if you want to interview at a program but already committed that time to another interview, tell them. I had a nice mini-interview weekend with one other applicant who had interview conflicts last year. It can be done, just ask.

jeg21085: Although the application deadline for UMass Med has yet to pass, they appear to be offering interviews on a rolling basis. I submitted my application (to the Immunology and Virology program) on 11/30 and received an invitation by email on 12/8. The volume of applications is higher since then, and also it is now the holidays, so it will likely take longer for a response. Just in case you were wondering, they offer two interview weekends: 2/4-6 and 2/25-27. Good luck!

On a general note, UMich PIBS sent out interview details by email today (to those who got invites by phone last week). Their primary interview weekend is 2/11-13 and the alternative is late January.

Still waiting to hear from UVA, UPitt, and Rochester

Good luck and happy holidays everyone!

just rcvd columbia cmbs invite! i was complete on the 18th (turned in super late), so super quick turn-out! their two big interview dates are in january. i probably have to move ucsf to Feb to accomodate. I hope they won’t look down upon such move.

Just received my first interview invite, Dartmouth MCB by email today. Yay!

Finally got an interview… Sheez.

VCU School of Medicine, Pharmacology/Toxicology, notified via email today

Almost always. They’ll try to be very accomodating.

Additionally, if you are applying to schools that are often cross-applied to, they’ll usually schedule their weekends to mesh with each other (e.g. UCSF Tetrad/Berkeley MCB/Stanford Biosciences usually have a 1-2-3 week).

You can just call the school and ask about details. This is not a problem, and you should not feel bad about it.

congrats nutmet1284. more to come i’m sure.

bikohcello:
I am domestic and I submitted my application in early November (complete before Thanksgiving). Super stoked about this interivew.

I also heard from Wake Forest Molecular Medicine today. I won’t be taking the interivew, but I thought it might help for those of you waiting for them.

And congrats, you guys!!!

just received my first interview from case western today!

just heard that UCSF BMS is done sending out interview invites. Darn

Admission for international students is usually considered separately for most schools. Has any international student heard from their program? I thought I woud ask before I started pulling my hair out  LOL

I am int’l and have not heard from any U I applied to (13 schools)…

Northwestern & Duke –> no word from any of them… No application confirmation (about the complete status). Is any of you guys in the same situation? According to both schools I am supposed to wait for an e-mail confirming that they received everything (scores, transcripts, etc.), but I submitted the app. around Nov. 27th, and no word yet…

nutmeg1284,

could you elaborate regarding ucsf? i just want to check your source before i jump into an abyss of disappointment…

Hey all, congrats for the invites!

I got my first invite from GSK too! Yay!

Applied: UCSF, UPenn, GSK, NYU, UPitt, U of Wis-Mad, Hopkins
Interviews: GSK

I have applied to a couple of programs I have received confirmation in the form of emails from all of them & a letter from one

My source is a BMS student, not on the adcom though. They said the interview invites were to be sent out by the 18th. But, I am hoping there may still be a few invites left to be sent, it was one of my top schools. The only way to know for sure is to contact the school

I received an invitation to interview at Weill Cornell Graduate School for Biomedical Sciences (Neuroscience) today! :)
