2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

for those asking about yale.
i got a phone call too but i did not pick up so the lady (JoAnn Falato) sent an email asking if I would like to interview. I applied to the pharmacology program. Is it the same lady for those who applied to Yale?

All this talk about Yale is making me impatient. I also applied to MCGD, with Neuro my second choice (probably should’ve put that as my first). It is not really my top choice at all (um, I don’t know about 7 years or so in New Haven, for one) but I just want to know! (I guess I have to wait until they get to internationals though).

yeah safety, i applied to the same programs, we’ll just have to see! i can’t wait till after holidays now.

@ Cal2010…I also applied to the MCGD track. So…we have to wait until Jan. 4th…right?? Although someone already got an official interview offer, I feel relief because you and me in same situation. I hope we will be fine!

Good luck every guyz!!!

@safetypin00

Yeah, I keep hearing a lot of griping about New Haven (though I’ve never been.) One of my mentors told me that the best part of being at Yale was that she had no distractions- she was able to finish in 3 years.

And if push comes to shove, there’s always the bus to Boston or commuter trains to Manhattan if you need an escape.

E-mail invite from NYU Sackler Immunology, rescheduled Tufts interview, will have to reschedule Chicago interview for February and skip out on the New England Science Symposium (no big loss there).

Schools Applied: Yale,Harvard,MIT,U Penn,Weill Cornell, NYU,Princeton,Mount Sinai,UVA,U Chicago,Tufts,SUNY Stonybrook,CUNY,Georgetown,U Illinois- Chicago

Interviews: Yale, U Penn, U Chicago, Tufts, NYU
Rejections: none yet…

Guys, there’s no need to worry because you’ve only gotten a phone call or an email from a professor – that’s an interview invitation, and you won’t get one unless you’re actually going to be interviewed.

yale? psh. manhattan is where it’s at…

during my preliminary search for grad schools, i had two rules:
1.) no nyc
2.) no so. cal.

xxxxxxx,
In the beginning my plan was California or bust. Now it seems to be all about NYC. :P

xxxxxxxxxxx, don’t be boring! manhattan isn’t that bad! maybe a little pricey, but fun.

QFT.

NYC gets old… fast.

really big cities are just not for me. too hard to get around (especially LA…oh god!), lonesome in its crowdedness. plus, i have two little dogs that i would have to check on during the day so i can’t handle really long commutes to work/school.

i have a lot of friends who now live in nyc, so it’s a shame i don’t like it. but maybe it’s a good idea that i isolate myself a bit from the “hipster” scene (most of the people i associate with currently are involved in fashion, art, music…don’t really fit in there)

cooper22, I thought New Haven and the Yale campus were gorgeous (was there for a conference). The buildings are stunning and the town is quaint…

NYC isn’t difficult to get around at all. IMO, I think it’s the easiest city to get around in the US (subway 24/7, taxi everywhere + on a related note, bars open until 4-5a, great combination! :D) As kyptonsa36 points out NYC is not for everyone. A lot of people miss quiet relax atmosphere after a months. But I am totally a city person and would love to stay here.

What schools are still accepting applications? I’m worried I didn’t apply to enough schools and am thinking I should put in a few last-minute applications.

I know U of Illinois has a January 15th deadline. A couple of schools have Jan 1-2 deadlines but I definitely can’t make that.

Thanks!

UT Southwestern has Feb 1 final deadline.

Thanks! I see Tufts has Jan 15th as well.

Brandeis has Jan 15 deadline.

Yes, I’m a big city person all the way. When the size of my university is bigger than the city I might be living in next year, or hell, the size of my first-year classes is the same as the entire undergrad in some of these places, I get nervous. I pretty much applied to places in NYC mostly because it is NYC, hahaha.

kentucky and ut health and science center san antonio have late deadlines.
