which columbia program are you guys going to this week?

Hi, I just wanted to find out from those who received Stanford Biosciences interview invitations via both email and snail mail, whether there are any differences between the two. I’m an international student and it appears that my snail mail invitation may have gotten lost so I’m just checking to see if I’ve missed any details.

I have two interviews back to back and am trying to figure out the best way to handle the arrangements so chime in with suggestions please. Emory has their weekend Feb 18-20 and UW-Seattle Feb 21-23. They want interviewees to arrive on Feb 20. Do you guys think it’s appropriate to ask them to fly me from Atlanta to Seattle and then back to my home city?

biomed2010- if you don’t mind me asking what emory program are you interviewing for? How did they contact you (ex. email, phone call snail mail) and when did you hear from them?

@biomed2010

I don’t think it is inappropriate to ask; I have a friend who did ask politely if it was possible for them to accomodate her. For what it’s worth, she went from NC to Chicago to NJ.

oh and I would also appreciate if you could say which program you are interviewing for at emory as I am waiting not too patiently as well to hear from them. Thanks!

@biomed2010- I’m in the same situation. I have an interview at UCSD Feb.18-20 and UW-Seattle Feb.21-23. I asked UW-Seattle via email if I could coordinate the two trips, and they said that was fine. They’re paying for my flight from San Diego to Seattle and them my return trip home. I also let UCSD know that I would just need a one way ticket there and they were fine with that as well and still arranged transportation to the airport for my flight out to Seattle. What program are you interviewing for at UW?

microphd- which program did you apply to at emory?

Thanks for the responses. I’m going to go ahead and send my request by email.
@ toxbound and microphd: I applied to the IMP program at Emory and was notified by email on 1/18.
@microst: I am interviewing with the Mechanism of Disease program in the Pathology Dept at UW.

thanks biomed2010.
I applied for the same program as well but haven’t heard anything yet. sigh. I hope that they are not done sending out invites.

For those who applied to Emory’s MSP program–when did you submit your application and when and how did they contact you for an invite? Just patiently waiting over hear.

@biomed2010 I know for a fact that UW-Seattle is okay with paying for a flight from another college (or Atlanta) because that’s what they’re doing for me: flying from Chicago (UChicago weekend) to Seattle and then Seattle to home in Atlanta. They’re especially nice because they’re paying for it outright. =)

biophys66:
Did you hear from UVA SCBB? I’m getting worried. I just noticed that UVA biomedical sciences program is able to admit less than 5% of international applicant pool.

@variola: Thanks for letting me know that. I just sent them an email. I was a little concerned because it was more expensive. I appreciate the heads up.

Hi everyone,
I just contacted the Vanderbilt IGP. They are still half way through reviewing all applications. International applicants will be reviewed later.

I’m still hoping to hear from two programs. Anyone have any updates on Baylor TBMM or UT Southwestern Basic Science Division? Are they still sending out invites?

Glad to see Vanderbilt still review applications.

I’m also waiting on UT Southwestern, JHU, UAB, UMaryland Baltimore, and UT Galveston. Any info on these guys? (Biomedical - Immunology)

From what I understand the Final decision for a grad schools has to be April 15th at the latest, right?

I mailed UT southwestern and they told me that they are still accepting applis till Feb 1. Domestics can expect to hear, for an interview, anytime from Jan and Internationals will not be invited for interview, so they will be contacted in March.

As I am int. applicant living in USA, I asked them how they are categorizing me, and I did not receive any reply!

Hope this helps!

Also, Thanks Biophys66 and MaceVindaloo!

Thanks for letting me know kinase!

@ Lelouch: I heard from UM Baltimore for the MMI program. I’m not sure if that’s what you applied to. Didn’t apply to immunology programs at the other schools on your list.

@n7el

yeah, I have an interview with UVa SCBB coming up, but like I said, I didn’t find out officially through the normal process, I was invited in response to a question that I emailed someone I knew down there. so I have no idea what their timeline is, they’re probably still sending out invites.
