2011-2012 Med school applicants and their parents

You mean that’s NOT how we were supposed to do it?

So happy for her Curm!!! And I bet your daughter is also thrilled!!!

Yippee!!!

Kat

A happy ending!

lol Did you see my join date compared to y’all? And I was here before the changeover. (Whenever PSAT scores came out when kid was in the 10th grade.) Jeez. I gotta go sometime.

Kid has to get the new charges in the right mood to accept my “charming” persona. “Now, ya know my Dad is kinda crazy and sorta mean, right?”

I am super tough on Apps in general and Personal Statements in particular.

I want the kids to write a statement that nobody else could write, and I will keep skinning them, or drilling down in their life, till they find that story. And then that forms the frame-work for how everything else in the app is presented. Some just simply don’t want to do that much work, or maybe they just don’t value the product.

So, I’ll tell you that I’ll be gone but…who knows?

October 2000
before the changeover, oldest started school 8/2001

you aren’t leaving, you’re just talking

Kat

OT: kat. I got one kid. You lived in a shoe. Ain’t exactly the same.

KWK- 1999/2000 for me, too.

Jeez. We all need a twelve step program.

I am just looking forward to the day when I no longer have to do the FAFSA! I think I have done more than twelve of them.

I have two more. Could be one, but she still says she’s taking a research year between MS3 and 4. Huh. I wonder how that works at her school? I’ll have to ask. Hadn’t thought of that.

Regarding FAFSA: Who did NOT use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool on FAFSA this year?

If you did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when you submitted your FAFSA in January or February, the school may ask you to go back to FAFSA and use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to download your tax return data from IRS to FAFSA.

My understanding is that the school is required by the Department of Education to do this before it can help you to get loans from the federal government. The school needs to verify that any item that shows up on both your FAFSA application and your IRS Tax Return should not be off by more than $25 between the FAFSA and the IRS Tax return, starting this year.

Not very sure whether my understanding is correct though.

mcat. Yup. We saw that.

FAFSA UGH! Maybe 3 or 4 years, have to do it for business school and the MPH…then we are done…first one in 2001. Before it was all paper. Now I feel old.

On to more pleasant topics…
Congrats again to all!! So excited for you.

Kat

WOWM,
“You know Miami, not everyone grows up with the kind of supportive parenting your D received. Some people come from disdvantaged backgrounds”
-You have no idea, sorry. As I said, it does not matter, everybody is achieved at their own pace taking theri own path, ours by far was much much harder than most, many many more obstacles, but they are behind…do not judge because your picture is not accurate…but it does not matter, enjoy…

My H. has been doing FASFA…just in case as D. has no use of it. He always said that it is so easy, I have no idea what he is using, just pluging the numbers somewhere for no reason, but this is his desire, I guess, just another computer thing…

*Ring the bells and fire the cannons 'cuz… The lil sis got in!!! Got the call this morning. What a relief…the goats are dancing. My kid says her sorority lil sis is just “numb”.

I had mentioned that during her “after the season conversation/review” that the admissions folk told her that “You just applied too late. You should have been admitted based on this app.” Well, maybe that “look” did the trick because she will be a med student. She really wasn’t looking forward to a re-app. Heck, I wasn’t looking forward to a re-app. TAMU, we love you! (But your sports teams still suck. )*

Curmy…so glad to hear! Such good news. What a relief. Go Aggies!

and…as a Bama SEC fan, I’m glad that newcomer TAMU’s teams still suck. :)

Happy to report my son has made his decision! I want to thank you all who have been so great during this process. Graduation is this weekend and it’s going to be surreal, since this is our first son to graduate. Trying not to think about it too much, as it was hard looking at freshman year move-in pictures this morning. Seems it all happened in a blink of an eye!
Best of luck to all the great pre-meds out there and their wonderful parents! :)

Best wishes for your son and congrats!!

Congrats!!!

So will he be on the east coast or far, far away???

Kat
or better yet, off the waitlist?

Congrats to CapeMom and CapeSon!
