2011-2012 Med school applicants and their parents

Congrats to CapeCod family.

CapeCodMom, I sometimes feel that I helped DS with his freshman year move-in not long time ago. The “good” time tends to pass very fast.

Thanks, guys! My son will be staying in the East. They’ve really been great, so it was an easy choice. He’s pretty excited since Second Look. I don’t think anything will change, as far as the other wait-list, as he’s pretty set now. What a relief~ :)

Congrats to you and your son CCL, enjoy!

Thanks, entomom. My youngest is a freshman in high school now, and already talking about college! He’s such a sweetie, it will be fun to tour with him. Lord knows where, as he is part engineer, biologist, artist, and musician…oh, and robot master! lol Perhaps we’ll see some schools we haven’t seen yet with the older boys!
Again, the very best of luck to all those still waiting to hear, and those waiting to make their own decisions. Best wishes. :)

Well, my application cycle has come to a close, and I must say it went better than expected! The premed forum on College Discussion has been very helpful during my premed days, and the advice given by others on it has undoubtedly had a significant positive impact on my application cyle as well. Thanks everyone for your help!
As far as the damage report goes:
Applied to 15 schools
Interviewed at 7
Accepted to 4
Rejected from a few schools and withdrew from most of them after I was accepted to one school.
Attending my state school!

Congrats, pcool! Glad things worked out so well for you!

Great job pccool,

CONGRATS!!

Gotta love that in-state tuition!!

Kat

Congrats, pccool. I’d say you had a very good cycle. Good list and good job. ;)

I’ve chosen my school too. Finally know where I will be going next year.

Looking back, I wish I was more confident in the strength of my application. Spent too much money on interviews. By the time acceptances came out on oct 15, I already went to most of my interviews and booked the other flights already. Could have not gone to a few of those pre-oct 15 interviews. Hindsight is 20/20.

Congrats pccool and brd! Glad to hear you both had such great results.

Congrats, pcool and bigreddawgie. Best wishes for a fulfilling life in medicine ahead. Great job. :)

Congrats, pcool and bigreddawgie!

I think we did pretty good again. (Take that sdn.) Big congrats , brd.

I started out on CC before moving over to SDN. You guys were very helpful for getting me on track before my cycle started.

I got to visit D’s medschool Monday. Came away with a GREAT feeling that she made a good choice. Loved the area, and the Dean of Admissions and the FA Dean were super nice. Only downside was that she needs a car ASAP as they start doing some kind of clinical stuff immediately. Thank goodness for cash grad gifts and the $1250 she got for an award at graduation!

Admissions Dean said she better not to be caught biking or skiing with a helmet, she’d be in big trouble.
Considering she ran into a parked car 2 years ago on a bike causing $1200 in damages, probably a good thing.

I’m thinking I’m moving up to the general area and becoming a full time ski bum. This 90 degree plus Georgia weather plus humidity sucks…it’s only May.

GA2012MOM-- Whoa! $1250!! That is amazing! Congratulations!

Thanks, it was quite a nice ending to a fabulous four years!

Summer is already here in Texas , too. Sucks.

Haven’t posted in quite a while but wanted to thank everyone here for their wisdom and especially for helping to keep things in perspective. S will be starting an md/phd program next week. He chose his state school, partly because everyone on this forum helped him realize that fit trumps “name.” it has been a wild ride and I am SO glad to be done. Thanks again.
