2011 AMC 12/10 Thread

85 is impossible grade, as you can’t reduce a score by.5, it goes in increments of 1.5 or 6 (which is 4 multiples of 1.5)

and if the cut off is 85.5 you’re in,

however that’s not happening. Last year was an all time low at 88.5, so forget even lower. Not to discourage you, but start studying for AMC 12B if you want.

In the slim case that I do get in, when do I find out? Do they mail you your results?
Also, is the amc 12b typically easier than 12a?

On the contrary, it’s harder, but the cut off is much lower, :D

and you’ll find out in 3 weeks, but I guarantee you, 85.5 ain’t happening, typically it’s 97.5, maybe 96, but definitely much higher than 80’s.

they do it based on the top 5%, so if there were a lot more people taking it this year and getting lower scores, then by default the cutoff is going to be a lot lower than 100, it could be 85.5. But your probably right and i should take these next couple weeks to study for the 12b.

Can someone please PM me the answers? Thanks.

I felt a migraine coming on during the last thirty minutes of this test, and it ****ed me over so bad. My school doesn’t offer 12B. Do you guys know who to contact at other schools to see if they’d let me take it there?

I live in NYC so I contacted the best math schools, since I know they have the B tests, however for other states, [Additional Locations for the AMC 10B/12B at Higher Education Sites](<a href=“American Mathematics Competitions | Mathematical Association of America”>American Mathematics Competitions | Mathematical Association of America)

Okay technically we can’t post answers, but it’s 11 and all schools definitely took the test by now and the aops amc forum should be opening up any second soon!!!

I’m definitely going to retake the AMC 10 test, aim for higher this time and will most certainly try answer more questions, :P

That is the magical locked AMC Forum, for fellow AopSer’s out there,

anyone aiming for usajmo or usamo?

YES!!! We can discuss it now!!!

I really didn’t like the question, number 12, about the raft and boat. Wording was so vague. And im pretty ****ed i didnt get the circle question with circles abc tangent to each other and finding the area of c not in a or b.

Can someone pm me the answers for questions 15 to 17?

I didn’t even try the boat problem, but i did get the other one. Are we allowed to discuss?

Does someone want to PM me the answers? Thanks in advance!

Saw the solutions today. I think I scored the highest in my class with an 82.5. We didn’t really go over many of them besides the the strange ones in 1-12.

Taking this after doing some previous years tests, I feel like this year it was pretty difficult. There weren’t really any sequence or log problems before question 20ish, which kind of sucked. It was all geometry and strange word problems.

Quick question: Does anyone know if you have to qualify for AIME in order to be the official “school winner”?

My school hasn’t done too well with the AMC in the past couple of years, so I think I have a good shot… so long as I don’t need to qualify for AIME.

Ha. Ha. Ha.
What a joke. I took 10A and my brain was exploded by the end.

does anyone know when the cutoff score is announced?

can anyone PM me the problems and the answer choices? I forgot the answers I put down and I’m trying to deduce what I put down from my scratch paper =__=

Can someone PM me the answers too? I took the AMC 12…
