And no, you do not have to qualify for the AIME to be a school winner, it goes to the student with the highest score. I am the school winner for my school but I got an 85.5, probably not high enough for AIME

Last year was a unique exception, and it was 88.5, and that was an all time low. This year the cut off will be much higher, and it’s one thing to make it, and nothing wrong with getting an 82.5, but collectively as a school…that’s somewhat sad. Please don;t take it the wrong way, I really hope you continue to aspire to mathematics or whatever your passions are.

Noone in my school knows about the AMC. Only one kid in the past two years made it to AIME and he was just about the only kid that prepared for it. Don’t get me wrong, my school is competitive, we sent kids last year to harvard, columbia, and cornell. This year isnt an exception (I’m a junior btw)

I’m a sophomore, and yeah, my school is pretty bad. I got an 82.5 this year (and may have won), and I think that was the winning score last year too, which is kinda funny. My school doesn’t really send anyone to top 20 colleges, but a good amount of them go to UVA and W&M. Last year we had one girl go to Georgetown, eight to UVA, and four or so to W&M, from a class of around 400.

Last year’s national average for the AMC 12A school winners was 88.35 and for the 12B it was 87.18. A school winner with 85.5 isn’t so far off the national average.

That’s like saying, if 90% of the kids did really really horrible, and the top 10% did really well, and if you get in average than that’s good…no it’s not necessarily. It really depends on the demographics and areas. I have higher expectations for Paolo Alto, California, then for say Utah. The kids in Paolo Alto, may not necessarily be smarter, but their schools will have prepared them for the test, and hence they naturally will score better.

for example, last year’s top 5% got 88.5, which isn’t much higher than the national average, which means many people scored higher than that, and many people scores lower as well.

Got 138 for AMC 12A, solved 22 problems and correctly guessed one out of the remaining three problem. I might or might not take the AMC12 B because I might not score over 138 on B, but since it’s my last AMC in high school I might still take a shot (It’s only 75mins).

Well, there’s no hook with AIME or AMC 12. Just getting into AIME is amazing, and within AIME, for perhaps a college like MIT, 6 would be really good.

We are not invited to take USAMO, though my index was like 250-ish last year. Actually I’m better at proof based questions because I’ve done a lot of relevent trainings in my country.
