2011 Facebook Group, Ring Tum Phi Article

Well things have gotten slightly out of hand on the facebook group and apparently there was some sort of article in the Phi about next year's freshman class or something regarding how people are acting in the group. If any current students know what I'm talking about I'd like to know what the article said, not the whole text just a quick synopsis. Thanks.

Basically, you guys know nothing about the school but pretend to know all. You all think all youre gonna do is drink/party/do drugs all night and can outdrink anyone when we all know you're gonna end up in the health center the first day if you even try. Pretty much laughed at how stupid the things you say are.

Way to embarass yourselves before you even get to Lexington. (Way to get yourselves balled too)

Well I wasn't one of the people participating in the rediculousness nor do I claim to know it all about WnL. I think posting frat reps on the internet is absurd and just was wondering what the response from current students was. I figured that at least two or three people have managed to get themselves balled from frats next year but did not know if it went beyond that. I'm certainly excited about WnL but also realize that I don't know everything and that delayed rush exists for a reason. I know that what has been said is extremely out of line but it all comes from one or two individuals and hope that it will not taint the reputation of the entire freshman class as the majority of us (or at least myself) do not share the same sentiments that the two people mentioned in the article have. Furthermore I certainly have enough respect for current students/ frats not to challenge or insult you and hope that a rift does not emerge as a result.

When was this Phi published or released? We subscribe by mail but haven't received one in a couple of weeks and have not seen this particular article.

Think about the image of freshmen you have in your high school. Bottom of the ladder, right? Same thing with college, freshmen are not particularly liked (especially during fall term when they go around drinking all your alcohol, wrecking your house, and doing ridiculously stupid things) until after pledgeship. The facebook group doesn't do anything to help your image, but don't worry about tainting the reputation of your entire class - you guys won't have a good reputation anyway - youre freshmen.

thanks I can accept that

That sounds promising...I too heard about this, and was wondering what the deal was. It's too bad that a few pretentious idiots are reflecting poorly on the majority of us excited albeit inexperienced-in-the-ways-of-W&L freshmen.

Personally, I don't understand why you would post those kinds of things in the first place. If random W&L students can read all those things, so can your W&L professors, so can adults. I once read a Washington Post article that talked about a group of kids by quoting excessively from facebook. Why you would want to talk about how much you plan to drink and how many illegal drugs you plan to do in a forum completely open to the world (that facebook group is global after all) is beyond me.

I concur, Dima.

as do I............

Hey let me offer some insight here. I absolutely loved reading some of the comments on that board, and was both happy and sad that most of the absolutely absurd comments have actually been made by fake accounts (Ralph Stenson, Jake S. Beot, Lawarence Alexander Xavier XI). Happy because none of them would actually be students here, and sad because I wouldn't get to punch them in the face.

Anyway, let's all just sit back and admire the wit and hilarity of Edwin Madison Frattington VI.

yeah, I'm pretty sure there are more actual W&L students on that board than pre-frosh. All the truly, truly outrageous comments are made by W&Lers writing under fake names, but there's enough general cluelessness to be entertaining. Most of the comments that real pre-frosh make are innocuous enough, though still silly.
