2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

I got the same email. Wondering the same thing.

@ahnundh
I don’t know how early they normally reject candidates so let’s cross our fingers for interviews? :)

I got the UCLA access email too, soooo strange. No idea what it means in terms of interviews or not. I guess we will all have to wait to find out.

I wouldn’t worry about the ACCESS e-mail. I think they sent it to everyone. I’ve gotten two of them and I already have an interview.

I think they send invites all through January, or at least they did last year.

Horrible time for their computer system to be flaky.

I got the UCLA ACCESS email. I am being interviewed. They told me in late December. I think the email went out to ALL applicants because their website was having major problems. I had personally been in contact with them about that. I would not expect that getting this email has anything to do with interview or rejection.

I got the ACCESS email too. They sent me an invite back in December, and when I replied to tell them which date I wanted, they emailed me back a week later apologizing that they didn’t see it right away because it went to a different inbox or something. I think it also happened to a number of people. Contact since has been pretty good with them. Although I don’t know what it means for subsequent invites or rejections they send out…as long as they didn’t intend to reject me and accidentally sent me an invite!! haha

What does “several weeks” mean? BBS lists it’s first interview date as February 10-13, less than a month away. What’s going on over there?

The Committee would like to extend an invitation to visit Caltech for an admissions interview on Feb. 3-4 or Feb. 17-18.

So happy! :)

@Phamachem, I applied to the immunology grad program. Good luck on your interviews!

@phirah, I got an interview invitation from UVM CMB this Monday but I wouldn’t be that tense because they have two interview weekends (Jan 28 and Feb 11). Maybe they only sent interview invitations for the first interview weekend… I don’t know. Do you know UVM? That do you think of them? Best of luck!

Harvard BBS has had its big adcom meetings already and are in the process of finalizing and tabulating I believe. Wouldn’t be surprised if invites will be emailed by the end of this week or the beginning of next. In planning for the recruitment weekends, we usually know a list of attendees to each weekend before the end of Jan, so I can’t imagine invites being sent any later than next week.

As for the other DMS programs (yes, BBS is part of DMS), my understanding is that those interview invites have all be sent out as current students already know who they will be hosting.

Also, my two cents regarding packing and luggage. Its best to do carry on to avoid any possibility of your luggage being lost. Men don’t need to wear suits; you will look like a med school applicant. (And heaven knows that’s a bad thing…) Collared shirts, nice sweaters, that sort of thing will be just fine. (Obviously, tshirt and jeans isn’t a great idea either) And a tip for wrinkles if you don’t have time to iron, hang it up in the bathroom while you’re taking your shower to let it steam.

Good luck to you all!

Congratulations on the CalTech interview Ajym89! Can I ask what program you applied to? I’m still waiting to hear from the Biology department :-)

@ proteinpacket - Thanks so much for sharing the info on UCSF Tetrad!
…But it also gave me a mini-heart attack. So nervous! At least they have the decency to properly reject you, unlike Stanford etc. who just make you wait…

This is a little off topic, but I’m guessing many/most of you also applied for the NSF-GRFP. Anyone have any idea how many they give out vs. how many people apply?

Does anyone know if Tufts and MIT gave out all their interviews already?

Interview invite to USC!

It seems like quite a few people have heard from UPenn CAMB, but has anyone heard from any other BGS subgroups specifically the Genomics & Computational Biology group?

Interview for Emory neuroscience by phone!

Does anybody know if MIT Biology has already sent out all their interview invites? sorry if this was already answered earlier.

hi xiv21…just wanted to know if you have any idea as to how many on an average/year apply to the Harvard BBS program specifically considering they accept roughly 100 as you posted earlier.

and also how many true(no US degree) internationals are accepted.

It is hard to tell if MIT Biology if done sending out invites, but I can say that my invitation listed 3 potential dates in Feb and March and required an RSVP by January 11th, which has obviously already passed… I’m sorry to say that is probably a sign the program is done sending out invites…

However, I have NO connections to MIT admissions so I cannot say anything for sure!
