@waitingame: I also have yet to hear back from vandy and unc-ch. I have, however, heard back from penn state hershey (interdisciplinary sciences umbrella program) inviting me out for an interview. Good luck!!!

@ labtech, congratulations on penn state and good luck with your other schools. do you mind telling me when they contacted you?

@ everyone else, congratulations on interviews. do you know what the chances are of being invited to interview at a program and not being accepted? It goes without saying that you don’t drink too much when the grad students or faculty take you out and prepare for your interviews (read literature and research goals of your corresponding interviewees). But is it possible to have an interview go well and you still don’t get accepted?

Just got an invite by phone to Brown MCB Jan 27-30. Anybody know the dates for Columbia interviews? I’m still waiting on them and hoping to not have a time conflict if I’m lucky enough to get an interview.

@AestheticReality

You’re one of the few people I’ve read on these forums that seems to have a similar taste in grad schools as me, hehe. I’m gonna interview at University of Chicago and Northwestern as well.

And did you apply to MCB at University of Washington? Because I think they’ve sent out all of their invites, but I’m not positive. I’m not sure about the other departments.

@sconecakes

Awesome! I actually just applied for the Biochemistry PhD at University of Washington. I wanted to work in the Varani lab, so I didn’t apply for MCB. I guess I’m a bit disappointed if they did send out their invitations, though. But, since the Biochemistry PhD deadline was January 1st, I’m still holding out some hope. They also did say they’d email out denials as well… :P

Someone on grad cafe said they got an interview form Hopkins PMB and I am worried now. Did anyone else get an invite?

@AestheticReality

I would also recommend looking into Rachel Klevit’s lab if you get into UW. I had her as an undergrad and she is a great teacher.

to delurk more effectively:
Applying to neurobiology
2.5 years of research experience in 1 lab+ 2 summer fellowships;
3.9/4 GPA liberal arts college, GRE 80% Q, 95% V, 67% W.
Interviews: Harvard, UCSF, UCSD, Yale, UW-Mad
Waiting/no hope: Columbia, MIT, Stanford, Rockefeller

@SuperPiePie I also got an invite from Hopkins PMB back on the 11th.

@bashibazouk, @surtuin, @turkeylurkey

Congrats for tetrad interview.

are u all domestic students? or is tetrad calling everyone around the world ?
and is your status on tetrad webpage changed ?

Thanks for response smark! So you and the person on grad cafe got invites, I really hope they are still sending them out T_T.

@numbernine

On my Statement of Purpose, she was the other professor I listed whose research seemed exceptionally interesting to me. That’s why I have my fingers crossed - a lot of the Biochemistry department’s research would have been so interesting to work under. That, and Seattle is one of my favorite cities that I’ve visited.

@kp12746 Aaaah, congratulations! Now you’ve got me all nervous because I applied to the MCB program, too, but haven’t heard anything. And they’re one of my top choices!

Although it looks as if I’d have to pick a different weekend if I get an invite; I’m going to be at Johns Hopkins on the 27th, which was another reschedule. Oy.

@pirah, Thanks! Yeah they have another weekend in February but they told me it was booked full so I had to take the Jan 27th one (I told them I could make both though, so maybe it isn’t 100% full if you absolutely couldn’t make the first one). I’m hoping Columbia has more weekends then this one, in case I get an invite (unlikely though). I’m already in the process of rescheduling Weill Cornell since ill be at Hopkins during that weekend, sucks that there is so much overlap :(. Best of luck!

@waitingame: PSHCOM sent me an email on Jan. 5th. I submitted my application in early Dec. Good luck!

hey all, been going through this forum and most of the posts are for interviews and not so much for rejections. are there people getting rejection notifications and just not posting them? or do rejections come later, seeing how when they are a notified is less important.

i am asking because i have yet to hear news from any school and am convinced i did not get in… even though someone said “no news is good news”

@kp12746 This doesn’t seem to bode well for me then, I was really hoping to hear from Brown as well.

Applying to neuroscience programs

Interviews: Wash U, UMinnesota, Florida State U
Waiting: Michigan State U, USC, UMichigan
Probably Rejected (no (un)official rejections yet): UWash, UCSD

@thatguy027: I don’t know as to most people, but I have not gotten any rejections as of yet. Still waiting on Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, and NYU. (Interviews @ Harvard, Columbia, UCSD, and UCSF).

UCSD Biosciences invite via email!

That makes invites: UCSD, Berkeley MCB
Still waiting: UCSF Tetrad, Stanford Genetics, Scripps RI Biology
