2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

I’m actually really digging the tetrad interview set up. One interview day, schedule of professors given on the day of interview, no studying their research required.

Hi, just got interview for stanford cancer biology as a letter in the mail. big envelope!

does anyone know if the stanford biosciences micro/immuno track (different than immuno only) is done sending out invites? i tried calling, but all i got was a recording.

@charwang

I received an invite by phone last friday and was told the home program (micro/immuno) was contacting all prospective applicants. I’m not sure if that means they’re done contacting people or not, though. Good luck!

@curlzgurl

When did you check your mail? I checked today and just had junk mail and bills to pay, no fat envelopes. I guess nail-biting time officially begins for Stanford Cancer Bio.

@ sdlifesci

unofficial rejection meaning when I spoke to some faculty members (i’m an undergrad at this institution), I was notified that “interview invites have gone out already.” but i have not yet received an “official” rejection e-mail/letter from the adcoms.

I have NOT heard anything from Harvard and don’t want to get my hopes up, but I’m nervous that if by some miracle they call me I won’t be able to interview!

Does anyone have any idea when Harvard’s MCB program might be interviewing? Or at the very least if there is any chance it is Feb 3-4? I know they won’t get back to us until next week, and I find it hard to believe they would interview first weekend in Feb, but you never know. I’m trying to book an expensive CA interview and am trying to put it in the least “popular” slot possible to avoid a conflict…

Got a phone call last night from Emory (neuro) for an interview! According to the email they later sent, they are interviewing 50 applicants to fill 18 spots.

So excited!

My (somewhat mediocre) stats:
3.25/4 GPA (3.98 last 2 yrs of school) GRE 800/Q, 640/V, 4.5/W
2+ years research experience in 3 different labs (no papers as of yet, 3 posters for SFN)

Applied to: Yale, Columbia, Emory, Tufts, OHSU, UMass Amherst

Interviews: Emory, Tufts
Rejected: OHSU (probably yale and columbia too, I have a feeling they’re done sending invites)

Anyone hear from Johns Hopkins Program in Molecular Biophysics? gradcafe has one interview invite the 11th listed. Also, how about Weill Cornell Physiology, Biophysics, and Systems Biology?

@IAmBiophysics
Someone in this thread got an interview for JH as well. I’m still waiting too T_T.

Oh, I thought I should post my stats and stuff since I’ve been around here long enough!

Institution: One of the top 5 engineering schools in the nation
Major: Biomedical Engineering (BME)
GPA: 3.15/4.0
GRE: 800Q/560V/4.5AW
Experience: 3 years of research experience in engineering long circulating contrast agents. 1 summer of experience in ncRNA research.
Awards: President’s Undergraduate Research Award, 1 summer fellowship
Recs: Good solid stuff.

Applied:
Duke (UPGG)
Tufts (BME)
UNC (BME)
IU (Medical Sciences)
JHU (PMB)
UT Austin (BME)
UW Madison (BME)
GT (BME)

Interviews:
IU
Duke

Accepted:
IU with full fellowship <- worked with PI over the summer so I got early notice (he personally told me)

Rejected:
None yet…

I got an interview at JHU, but not for any programs other people have mentioned. I’m interviewing for the Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology and Biophysics program (CMDB), which is sort of the umbrella biology program at the school of arts and sciences. Or at least that’s the impression I get.

I got the fat envelope yesterday (the 13th), but i also live in the bay area so it may take a couple more days for people who live farther away

good luck, and congrats on everyones interviews so far

@curlzgrl9331: What date was the letter from Stanford written?

Not sure if anyone but myself applied but Roswell Park Cancer Inst invite via email! Dates Mar 3-5

@ curlzgrl9331 - congrats! so jealous. :)

anyone hear from MIT csbi?

Just wondering if anyone received a rejection from them by email?
This is too suspenseful!

So, finally heard back from University of Washington in Seattle for their Biochemistry PhD program. Interview date is February 14th.

Woooooo!

@ aestheticReality

congrats! :)

Awesome!
