The 2012-13 Common App is scheduled to launch at midnight tonight. In previous years, we've managed to flip the switch a few minutes earlier. We'll post again when the site goes live.

One more thing: there's no prize for being first. It's fine to be excited, but don't rush.

^^no…most won’t even allow you to hit “submit” on the supplements before the common app is submitted for their school…

Only Wash U lets you submit the supplement separately and only part I so they can count that as a started application…(unless something has changed)

Hi everyone. Supplements are not, unfortunately, all immediately available when the Common App goes live. Different schools post them at different times. There’s plenty to work on in the meantime, however - activity essay, main essay, activity list, addition info (if you are doing that), plus a whole bunch of mundane stuff that it can take forever to gather (parents’ educational background, school counselor’s email address, test scores, etc).

When you start your Common App account, you will have the opportunity to add the schools you want to apply to. Don’t worry, you can change the list as often as you like. When you add a school you will be able to see whether its supplements are available.

By the time you finish working on the available supplements, others will probably be posted.

Don’t put anything off. Get this stuff done early, and you will thank yourself later.

Every year at the end of the application cycle, I ask my students “What is the most important piece of advice you would give to next year’s students?”

Without fail, they answer: “Start early! Get it al done as early as you can.”

When we launch later tonight, 180 supplements will be live in the system. The remainder should be available by Labor Day. At this point, it’s in the colleges’ hands. We can only post what they’ve given us.

Also, it’s not accurate that you need to submit your Common Application before you can submit your supplement–not universally, at least. Some colleges require a certain sequence, and others don’t have any restrictions. It will all be spelled out for you on your My Colleges page.

Just don’t be disappointed if a specific supplement is not yet available. It will be available within the next several weeks. Keep checking back!!

At any rate, I will be starting on this tomorrow morning. No way I’m going wait till some last minute genius in me to suddenly come up and make a half-perfect rushed apps.
Of course, my goal is to be finished after I take the ACT and SAT.
