2012 Andover and Exeter

Haha did anyone notice my Call of duty reference?

^^ do you mean “prestige”?
IS THAT WHY EVERY BOY AT SCHOOL SAYS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

^^^yup 10char

I should’ve already learned that everything they say can be connected back to video games.

hahahahaha

I am deeply offended ;). and btw exonians, girls from PA rave about how good of a hugger your mascot is…

Ok, about the driving times, on Sunday I went to Boston and I timed it from my house to the Zakim bridge. fyi google maps says my house is .8 mi away from PA and 1 min away. And the time was drumroll 21 min 14 sec 90 millisec.

Hey does anybody know if attending Andrews Osborne Academy would increase my chances of getting into any of those schools?

Sorry, I don’t know about that school specifically, but I do know that if many students from that school matriculate to Andover and Exeter, then you have a pretty good chance.

Ok because about two months ago I was reading the Andover app and I think it mentioned it and its a feeder for Andover.

I agree that Andover’s better. But…I mean getting into Exeter and not Andover is like getting into Yale or Princeton and not Harvard! Exeter’s still stellar!

I can’t believe you guys would choose a high school based on their mascot! Haha! Jk

Either school will give you a great education and future. Both schools are feeders to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. Fun fact: 1/3 of all students at Andover got into Harvard. Thats 33 1/3%! Exeter’s probably around that, too. Most high school’s student’s acceptance rate to Harvard is probably around 1%…but yeah choose Andover.

HarvardRox1199, you have a source for that claim?

The latest school profile available for Phillips Andover states that 15 of the class of 2011 matriculated at Harvard. 15/323 = 4.6% http://www.andover.edu/Academics/CollegeCounseling/Documents/School_Profile_2011-2012.pdf</a> Now, maybe 107 Andover students were accepted by Harvard, and 92 chose to attend other colleges.

But I doubt it.

Take a look at [Boarding School Stats : Matriculation Stats](http://matriculationstats.org/boarding-school-stats). According to this site (last updated on April 15, 2011 and based on five years of data), Andover’s college matriculation stats were as follows:

18.4%: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, and Stanford.

27.8%: Ivies,

61.8%: Top 25 National Universities and top 15 National Liberal Arts Colleges, and*

79.2%: Top 50 National Universities and top 30 National Liberal Arts Colleges.*

While these stats are impressive, no one should attend a prep school based upon college matriculation stats alone. Be forewarned: in some instances, attending prep school decreases a student’s chance of being admitted to an elite university.

As ranked by US News and World Report

Is this thread really going to start up again? And no, I would not choose a school based on their mascot. I sort of hate gorillas actually.

"While these stats are impressive, no one should attend a prep school based upon college matriculation stats alone. Be forewarned: in some instances, attending prep school decreases a student’s chance of being admitted to an elite university. "

This is very true, at andover and exeter there will ALWAYS be someone that’s better than you at something. It would be easier to get into a better school if you were top of your class and top of athletics at a smaller school, however you would then miss out on an amazing experience.

I can only see the titles of the articles you sent me because my internet is pretty shady, so I’ll just assume they talk about how sex and drugs are prevalent at Andover.
You’ll be hard pressed to find a single high school without either, and if that’s what you think is the definition of what makes an experience at a school amazing or not, then perhaps I could point you in the direction of this nunnery I know…

Cogent, do you have stats for Exeter too, or just Andover? Because it’s hard to compare two schools on one matter if you only have the statistics from one. And by looking at those statistics, I would actually say that Andover is doing quite well, considering 78.5% of students have not had sex and 41.8% of students have never had alcohol.

Yeah, I think I got it off of Boarding School Review, but I’m not sure.
