2012 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

so i just read on princeton’s website (the general grad school admissions page) that

“The Graduate School does not require or conduct interviews, although some departments may welcome them.”

…does this mean princeton doesn’t have people out for interview weekends before accepting/denying them? anyone know from a previous cycle, maybe?

Princeton Molbio does interview
no doubt on that one

but but has has anyone heard from them ?

Their deadline was like 1Dec and they said they have begun reviews from 1Nov
but I am surprised to see that they have not yet for interviews

Damn!

@mufa

have u applied to Princeton Molbio dude?

If I hear one more thing on here or gradcafe about princeton molecular bio…

@musttryharder yeah I’m with you.

Now I really wish I had applied to Princeton Mol Bio…

@neuro

why ??

How would you all recommend preparing for interviews? They asked me to send an email with the top 10ish faculty that I would be interested in meeting with, can I assume that those are the only faculty that I’ll meet? Should I just be familiar with their research? Thanks!

All the invites for Harvard Neuro have been sent out.

Also, UPenn Neuro applications are under review and probably will not be done before Dec. end.

My understanding is that they will confirm your panel of interviewers before hand. As for how to prepare, a coworker who got in last year said that the interviews were partly the professor explaining their research and then asking you about yours and about what your interests are for grad school. I would read some papers from each professor. Try to have questions for them and have a fairly good idea what your interests are (these can change btw once you are in).

And it’s all from this one guy, and he posts EVERYWHERE. Not only that, but the posts are just, “Does anyone know anything about Princeton Molbio?!?! Why is no one talking about it, if it were awesome wouldn’t you be talking about it!?!? ohnoohnoohnoohno”.

As others have suggested:

Chill.

Out.

Please.

I was wondering if anybody knew if UCSF BMS sends out interview offers more than once?

I looked at the grad cafe results from last year and the dates they first sent out interviews were the same as this year’s. I’m guessing the same will apply for rejections, which is early January.

which school, denizen? :)

For those that have received interviews, have the schools contacted you yet with a formal list (instead of a “wish list”) of the professors you will be interviewing with? Do you know the timeline that they usually let you know?

Received air tickets from NYC to Chicago, Who is going to visit University of Chicago on the Feb 23rd - 25th?

I received Emails from schools that invited me and asked me to give them a list of faculties whom I would like to meet during the interview.

UChicago and Columbia asked me to come up with some professors I was interested in and that they’d get back to me with a specific itinerary later.

UT didn’t ask, but I still need to submit some paper work so maybe it’s coming.

Do any of the moderators/senior members know what’s the typical proportion of internationals in the incoming class for Biosciences/Neuro?

just got my first interview for Mount Sinai GSBS, March 9-10…relieved now
