I got a call from a potential PI from Stanford. Could differ by program because for eeb you are basically admitted directly to a lab.

Does anyone know what percentage of those offered an interview does Gerstner Sloan Kettering actually admit?

Finally got word from each school. Here’s my tally so far:

Interview: Johns Hopkins BCMB, Harvard BBS, Northwestern IBiS, UWashington MCB

Rejected: Yale BBS-BBSB track, Berkeley MCB

I called both Yale and Berkeley and each confirmed they have finished sending invites, I have not received an official rejection from either school though.

Biochem2012, was that Yale BBS as a whole or just the BBSB track that is finished with invites? (I was Neuro, not BBSB)

Since I have heard nothing from them, I am wondering if it is time to cue the tears (kidding!) or if I might still hear something.

For what it’s worth:

Interview: Vanderbilt, UNC, Northwestern (NUIN), U Michigan (PIBS), UT Houston’s GSBS (I work there currently, and Cornell (not Weill Cornell).

Rejected: offically, nothing so far. Unofficially, most likely Yale and UWash (Seattle).

invite to Harvard MCB!!!

THIS IS WEIRD. Just got an email from Yale stating “By now you have been contacted with our invitation to visit the Yale University campus…We are thrilled you will be able to visit during our Track’s recruiting weekend from Thursday, February 9th Sunday, February 12th, 2012 and look forward to meeting you!”…

The fact is I’ve never been contacted by Yale before (I was expecting rejection) and naturally never indicated my attendance or my preferred schedule… I’m out of US though, so it is totally possible that I missed the call. Still, how can they assume I will go and prefer that date (which btw conflict with Harvard BBS)?

@stemcellneuro how did they contact you?

Harvard MCB !!! =)

I’ve been lurking for a little bit, so I thought I would post.

@looong - It’s very strange they assumed you’re coming even though you haven’t been in contact with them yet. The date make sense though. Yale BBS doesn’t give options for visitation dates (unless you’ve applied to Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics and Development). If your track is BBSB or Immunology, the interview weekend is Feb. 9-12 - that information is at [Application Status > Biological & Biomedical Sciences | Yale University](Application Status < Biological & Biomedical Sciences)

Case Western Molecular Virology invitation last night!! Weekends are Feb 3-4, march 2-3 or whenever I want (according to the email). Hoping its the start of a long line of positive emails

In other news, I was talking with Irvine because I sent them an updated transcript today to include fall grades and she told me “There are still a few more slots left for interviews. Im waiting to hear from the CMB director for permission to send the invites hopefully by tomorrow”

I’m hoping she wouldve only said that to me if I was one of those applicants!

i just called stanford biosciences, they said they are sending out snail mail invitations today, and some departments do email but all do snail mail. and people should receive them at least within the next 10 days.

@seniorspring

are they sending out invites for all departments? which one did you call?

This must be a joke.

I just got an invite from Harvard MCB!!!

@NanoChem
Thank you for your post (your first!)
I did choose the Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics and Development track which theoretically means I can visit on either Feb 3-4 or Feb 10-11. Unfortunately, I have conflicts for both dates… Is it possible to ask them for other arrangements?

@seniorspring

So do we know which departments do email? I applied to biochemistry and haven’t seen anyone mention anything.

Harvard MCB interview weekend is February 15th through the 18th, btw. This is, apparently, the 2nd weekend.

no she did not say, it was the general biosciences number

@looong - It couldn’t hurt to ask (especially if your conflict is an interview with Harvard). Maybe they could arrange for you to join the nanoscience weekend (even though it isn’t your track) or visit on your own in a less structured manner.

Harvard MCB invite Feb 1-4. Does it matter to interview on the first vs. second date (Feb 15-18th)?
