So the schools can see the AMCAS application BEFORE it is verified and “released”?

I don’t see how they can mess up. The first thing they ask you is to enter your AMCAS id. However, anything is possible :D

I don’t think so, but I could be wrong. You submit the application, wait to have it verified, and then it gets transmitted to the schools on your list by AMCAS.

Some schools can find out your MCAT score (or score range) if you check the box when signing up for the MCAT. Hence, the recruitment letters after you take the test and get your scores.

Of course, there have been some difficulties with AMCAS in the early going of this cycle, and some pre-meds on the other forum believe that AMCAS may have accidentally transmitted un-verified applications. At least, that is what some on one of the school specific forums are reporting.

@ kal, fair enough. Regardless, even if you submit a secondary without having your primary verified, you won’t be marked as complete. So, if Tatin’s D sends in the WashU secondary, she’ll still have to wait for her primary to be verified before her application can be marked complete (and by extension, before any interview invites could go out). At least, that is my understanding of the situation.

I agree that there is no advantage of turning in your secondary before your primary is verified. However, its better than sitting on secondary apps and watch them pileup. My son’s primary app is not verified by AMCAS. But his application (at least part of it) has already been transmitted to WUStL and they sent him the following e-mail asking him to finish his secondary:

By the way, WUStL requires “Dean’s verification letter” from each school you attended.

My son is going to submit the WUStL secondary, once he decides against or completes the optional secondary essay.

If you received an email with the link to fill it out then fill it out but I wouldn’t fill out a secondary before getting that.

Tatin - did your D receive a similar notification as Kal’s son?

Tatin- Like your D, my son has not yet been verified, but he actually received the email from WashU to complete their secondary.

From what I gleaned it appears that WashU sends secondary to everyone who applies. I have no proof of this however.

Screening before secondary is rare because the secondaries bring in $$$. Unless you find explicit evidence of screening for a given school, it is best to assume the secondary goes to everyone.

Two schools that are known to screen before sending secondary applications are Vandy and Wake.

If the concern here is that they can’t match your secondary with your primary when it rolls in, its unfounded since your login id for the secondary is literally your AMCAS id. I hope they are as clueless as you suggest.:)

My concern is that if they don’t have your name on file the secondary is not kept. Additionally since schools invite you to fill out their secondary I worry about the judgment you would receive for not waiting for the invite.

She received the email. So I would advise her to send it in. Don’t they usually instruct applicants to complete the secondaries within a short time. It could take a month to be verified.

If you received an email asking you to fill it out you can go ahead just fine-I wouldn’t even think twice about that circumstance. I only heard about the “timely manner” rule the year after I applied but the earlier you get it in the earlier they can review it.

And I will contribute that UCSF screens pre secondary

same thing here about WashU–got their email with the link.

However, I called them yesterday and the lady said submit whenever…doesn’t matter if you’re not verified. They’ll match everything up.

cheers!

UNC screens OOS pre-secondary.

Kat

Dd just received email with link to U of Chicago secondaries. She has yet to be verified.

On another note, last LOR writer still has not turned in her rec to committee. Premed advisor says it is not dire YET but committee letters go out early July. Dd so frustrated that she had everything set to be first and now is on the struggle bus and may be last.

D got U Chicago’s email and Dartmouth today.

Does anyone know if the medical schools can see the whole primary application before verification? The reason I ask is this: It seems to be taking AMCAS a loooong time to verify this year. The one week delay seems to have created a logjam of applications to verify. I’m wondering if the schools are ‘going around’ this and looking at the whole application anyway, perhaps with an asterisk that the grades are not verified. Is anyone going to lie about a grade on the application? Isn’t verification just sort of a formality?

Tatin, I received a secondary as well today. I guess schools can view the primary before verification like you suggested.

D has received two secondaries and won’t be verified for a while if AMCAS continues at this rate.

Apparently some schools request and receive a list of names of students applying to them as soon as the student submits their primary, before verification and official transmission of applications to the specific school.

D2 also got secondaries today. AFAIK, she hasn’t yet been verified, but she submitted June 10 and her transcripts were “officially received” the next day so surely she ought to be verified soon.
