AMCAS made nice progress today! They burned through 2/3 of 6/12 in one day! Everybody must be really rejuvenated from the long rest they had during the past month or so.:D

^Where’s the “like” button kal123?

D verified today! Woot woot ! Now to get that last LOR and the committee letter written.

D2 verified. More secondaries!

D still isn’t verified but has received five secondaries so far (submitted two). The “Why [our school]” essays are the most challenging.

D finds the “your most significant personal challenge” one to be the hardest. She joked that she wanted to write that her most significant personal challenge was thinking of a significant personal challenge! From her point of view, she has lead a pretty challenge free life to date compared to those who truely are challeged by adversity of some kind. I told her that Adcoms know that there are alot of kids like her and they are not going to judge her essay as petty just because she didnt face some super difficult challenge.

Yup. Ditto. Wrote that same post then deleted it. “Hey. I had it easy. Please don’t hate me.”

Exactly! She knows she is Blessed to have had it so easy but that doesnt make the best essay!

AMCAS finally verified my son’s primary. They really upped their game. They are currently processing at a scorching pace. My son’s application was “under review” for barely 10 minutes! But then, his application is as simple as it gets with just one transcript to process.

Now, he is going to get flooded with his remaining secondaries. He hasn’t yet submitted even one of the secondaries he already received. The real drama begins now :D

Kal123…Congrats on your DS’s verification!

D isn’t verified yet but has five secondaries through AMCAS. (TMDSAS secondaries were submitted some time ago.) She’s turned in three of the five. She hopes tomorrow to turn in the remaining two and then begin pre-writing so that they’ll all be done by August 15th or so. She has three interviews already scheduled for early August so this cuts into pre-writing time. This whole process is crazy stressful, huh?

In general, I advise students to skip optional essays that are clearly designed for a certain demographic, e.g. “diversity” or “hardship”, unless they truly belong to the demographic in question.

Essays about “Why us?” are of critical importance and should never be skipped. And of course, if a “diversity” or “hardship” essay is mandatory, it needs to be written.

Thank you. That’s one less excuse for him not to get going with his essays. He finally got going with the secondaries. I knew it when I heard his mom giving him credit card information on the phone :D

Congratulations on that! With TMDSAS schools, I suppose. She might even have an acceptance or two on hand by the time she get’s around to interviewing with AMCAS schools.

Congrats Kali on your DS’s verficiation.

JC40, I agree with Kali, your DD may have an acceptance or two before the AMCAS interviewing begins for her. Sending good vibes to her and everyone else in this cycle.

JC40 - Hope all of them are in Texas so she does not have to revisit for those.

I believe Nov 15th is when the early results in Texas come out.

Thanks, kal123, learninginprog, and texaspg!

texaspg…Nov. 15 is the earliest pre-match date, and they continue until the end of the year. We’ve heard the odds aren’t great for most candidates to pre-match; more likely, they’ll find out on Feb. 6 if they match with a TMDSAS school. So I suppose we’ll find out then.

Question about AMCAS and LORs:
D is utilizing Interfolio. She listed 5 letter writers on her AMCAS application and designated which schools each rec would go to. (All five letters were designated to go to all schools since they all accepted as many as five.) Anyway, she had Interfolio send them to AMCAS, and they’re all showing "received"on AMCAS. Is this all she needs to do? (This is all that’s required through TMDSAS.) I presume AMCAS will send the letters to the school when she is verified, right? Some on the other site have mentioned applicants sending LORs directly to the school so we’re a bit confused.

^ A few years ago, I heard at least UTSW mostly built their class via prematch. Not all of them, but a lot of then. Is it changed?

BCM uses rolling admission. So some (but likely not many) may even receive acceptances in October, I.e., before 11/15.

I think UVA is also one of the early med schools.

Congratulations on getting verified kal! More importantly now, good luck on keeping up with the secondaries.

jc40, I can barely keep up with everything going on regarding those apps and interviews for your DD. Kudos.

mcat2…Yes, UTSW does build most of its class through pre-match; however, UTSW is really hard to get into, and most won’t be accepted (except, of course, if you’re a superstar like curmudgeon’s D :)). Many of D’s friends had to wait until February for the Texas publics to find out if they were accepted. Yes, D would be elated if somehow she lucked out and found out earlier, but she’s not allowing herself to entertain that possibility.

“We’ve heard the odds aren’t great for most candidates to pre-match;”

I wouldn’t be so pessimistic! :p

The good candidates are the ones who get the early interviews and as long as they do well, they match. If the interview calls come in late October, then it may be February.

The one candidate who I mentioned finishing all interviews by September 20th got into every school on November 15th. I heard the same from two others who did this two years ago.

I do agree with mcat2 that many seats at UTSW are actually filled in the early match. I think Houston may be one not filling too many in November.

It’s not TX, but DD’s school seems to choose about 10% of their class in the fall, decline some percentage in the fall or right after interviews and leave the rest until spring. Kids who got in early seemed to be interesting and impressive, though not necessarily by numbers (like DD!), I don’t think you have to be 40./40 to get in early, just click well with the interviewers and impress them.
