2013-2014 Applicants and their parents.....

The yield for IS is about twice as large OOS, I think.

This proves that the majority of the top California applicants who are admitted to the top 3 med schools in Calif. will much more likely choose to stay in their state rather going anywhere else. I even think (guess) maybe most of them want to practice in Calif. in the future, and it may be easier for them to get into a good residency program in Calif. if they stay IS for med school.

Location may matter more than we think it is.

Cricketland:  ha

UCLA hasn’t sent even one interview invite yet. Are they the slowest or what?

Some of the good Texas students usually decline UCLA interviews because they have been admitted to several places by the time the call comes.

Word on SDN is that UCLA will begin sending invites sometime in October. They are not rolling admissions.

Some of the non rolling schools don’t start send invites until even later than that too.

Close but no Cigar. The news as of a few days ago was that University of New Mexico was did not even send out secondaries. However, they get only 266 in state applications and offer 242 interviews! Not much to review there, I guess.

Actually UNM secondaries went out Sept. 19th.

RD interviews start Oct 14.

This morning, my son woke up to the pleasant news of an interview invite from Stanford - his 10th of the cycle and his 1st from a top 10 school. There is no way to expect this invite with any certainity since Stanford interviews only ~270 of their >4300 OOS applicants. His chances at Stanford went up suddenly from 2.8% to ~50%.

texaspg,

Your assessment of his chances from Stanford is spot on. I would have gotten Powerball numbers from you, but I don’t gamble :(

PS:
If anybody else is waiting to hear from Stanford, the first available date for my son was Oct 30th.

Congratulations Kal. Now I am excited for Kal’s son!

^ Thanks very much!

Congrats to your S.
It is quite an achievement to receive an II from this school.

Congrats, kal. Stanford has such a beautiful campus. Such good news!

Wow kal, congrats to your son!

Wonderful news, kal123! May this train keep rolling!

I am sure there will be many more pleasant news coming to your son kal. Congrats to him!

Add my congrats to the pile!

mcat2, TatinG, Pinkstuffz, UrbanGardener, learnnginprog and WayOutWestMom,

Thank you.

Meanwhile, my son is on his way to Charlottesville for his UVA interview tomorrow. Amtrak cancelled the train service because of a derailment between DC and Charlottesville and put him on a bus. I am hoping that he will be there in a couple of hours.

Well, October 15 is upon us. I wish all the applicants on this thread would have a decision or too in their hands. Even though my son will have finished 4 interviews by Oct 15, only OSU and UVA are likely to have a decision for him by then. The other two will convey the decisions a little later.

Congrats kal!

This is very exciting stuff!! My kid is still hoping for that Stanford interview. Only been 4 years. It could still happen. Right? Never sent a rejection. So…maybe? I told her the UG campus looked like a La Quinta. ;)

Curm, Perhaps the below may have been the reason mudgette received no communication.

Email Servers were down

The snail mail decision got lost in the mail.

Phone Lines down.

Whoever was responsible to communicate the above walked off the job and uploaded it to youtube, but it never went viral for mudgette to see.
