2013-2014 Applicants and their parents.....

Congratulations on all the acceptances on this thread so far and best wishes for many more to come this cycle.

Piggle & mrpenguin,

Thanks for the comforting words. It’s just that his interview list is growing (14 now with 10 yet to be attended) and he will miss a lot of classes and is getting stressed about that. He thought he could prune his list to a manageable level once he had an acceptance.

Thanks. We do have a great relationship. He knows that I enjoy this stuff and we both worked out ways I could be useful for him in this process. We created a new e-mail account just for his med school admissions and I monitor the e-mail traffic from schools and forward them to his personal account. He doesn’t want to be on CC because he knows that I am here and he can’t bear to see me bragging about him all the time. :D

Kal - hang in there. Its too early, at least for your son since he has done so few interviews.

Great to know, my deferred school was the school I fell in love with after interviewing.

Wow everyone! Lots of fantastic news today! Mr P, that cake was scrumptious. Even better when we’re celebrating good news.

Pinkstuffz, Piggle, and Learninginprog: so glad to hear about your acceptance or two. Kal123, your happy news will come soon too. It’s very early.

Kal
I remember a few years ago when ‘everybody’ on CC was getting in on Oct 15. DD had had 3-4 interviews but only one of those schools did an Oct 15 admissions and it was a wait list.
Less than a month later she interviewed at her #1 choice and was admitted a few days later. So happy to cancel the other interviews and flights

Piggle, and Learninginprog,
Congrats to your S for the great news!
Kal, The good news will come soon.

What a difference a day makes! This morning, my son woke up to the news of acceptance from UVA! Everything from here on will be gravy, at least as far as I am concerned!

Somemom, limabeans, mcat2 & texaspg,

Thanks for the support.

Texaspg,

You were spot on again man. You said my son would get into UVA if he just doesn’t show up in “flip-flops and shorts”. I made sure of that :D

I am at work. I will post more thoughts in the evening.

Awesome news Kal!!

That’s terrific news, Kal!

From what I hear on SDN, Vandy will begin sending out acceptances on Friday. As long as he didn’t wear “flip-flops and shorts” during that interview, I bet you’ll get another pleasant surprise in two days.

Hearty congratulations to mrpenguin, and a raised glass to MD Team Members learninginprogress and kal. Not expecting much news in this corner until November, barring an unexpected surprise. Continuing good luck to all!

DD woke up to her first acceptance this morning. Great way to start the day! She is happy but hoping to hear more good news on Friday.
Congrats to all who also have had good news.

Congrats to all who got good news today!
I bet more will be coming and possibly more interviews.

Congrats Kal! 4 interviews, one admit, one deferral - that’s pretty good!

I am a bit confused. Is mrpenguin in? If so congratulations.

congrats to spring162’s daughter.

Congratulations to spring and her D!

Tex, yup, I’m in and over the moon!

Wow! This CC group is getting all sorts of good news. Good news here as well. First acceptance this morning for DD. Congratulations to all.

congrats to TatinG’s D!

I heard that also. However, they may not have a decision for my son. My son was told that it usually takes 4-6 weeks for them hand out a decision. Moreover, even though my son had a great interview, I am not presumptive in expecting an acceptance from Vandy. Also, interviewers are not on the committee there; they just give a report.

BTW, mrpenguin, I wasn’t quite sure that you got in. Hearty congratulations to you and well done!

Also, congratulations to Tating’s daughter and Spring162’s daughter! I would like nothing more than a 100% acceptance for kids on this thread.

My son did his UMD interview today. He got 2 faculty interviews and one of them had a long conversation/debate with him on the healthcare reform and the budget impasse. The hospital, according to him was large, clean and busy. They have a traditional curriculum with no pass/fail. There were 4 JHU students in a group of 15 interviewees. Apparently UMD takes in 25 JHU kids every year! In state tuition for OOS kids, though not as common as with OSU, is definitely not unheard off; especially for my son since he has been in Maryland for a while.

Next up for him is a series of 4 interviews in a row with just 1 day gap in between, starting from Cornell on the 24th, followed by NYU, Stanford and Pitt.

Congrats to Kal’s S and spring’s D.

Interview invite today! This week keeps getting better.
