2013 AP Latin Thread

It was a lot easier than I had previously thought.

I actually had a really good time with MC, as the passages were ones I had worked with extensively and thus was able to answer them properly. The sight passages were also fine in the MC, and I did not run into too much trouble with those. I had studied Book 2 of the Aeneid earlier this morning, so the first Vergil translation was a piece of cake. The Caesar translation was also good for me. Short answers were also great. The one major problem I had was the essay. I think my points may have been too wishywashy and unclear.

It was ok…

MC was fine, but the vocab in the translations killed me. Essay was fun, I think I came up with some good points. My Caesar translation did not make any sense at all, but I tried to stick stuff in the right place grammatically. I hope it worked out. -crosses fingers-

Lol Aischylos, you got a 5, good job.

As for the rest of us mere mortals…

I did the exact same thing for the Caesar translation! I had never seen the passage before, so I just pieced it together as well as I could.

The exam was quite easy. I finished the MC with 20 minutes to spare and checked them twice. The outside reading ones weren’t hard. The translations were very easy, Caesar is always fun. The Free Response Essay was great and I wrote a solid 3.5 pages on it. The Short Answer for Virgil was hardest but was balanced by the insanely easy Caesar ones. I had 34 minutes left after checking on them. I felt like I missed something in there.

I drew pictures all over my free response and I had over an hour left over…hoping for a 5. HAHA

Finished MC with 40 minutes left to spare.
Had to guess on a few, but that was expected…

Wrote full 6 pages for essay. I got a lot of good things in, but was kind of all over the place sometimes… Caesar was better than Vergil. :)

/knock on wood/

Hey guys, I actually didn’t see that last FRQ question (the new AP Exam thing, with the question and answer book… it sucks… and I like IDK I was so focused on the Latin I wasn’t listening), so I like effectively got a 0 on that.
Like what do you guys think the cutoff would be for like a 4 (or even a 3—If I’m looking at a 2, I’m cancelling the score)?

Like 80% right, 70% right… What do you think it would be?
I’m really worried about it, and since it’s the first year of the exam I have no idea like what a normal curve for it would be :(

Like is it the kind of thing where a reasonable number of people walk in and take the test knowing like 0 latin because their school pays for it, or am I looking to try to hold a place in the top percent of a group of like actually good latin students?

(Not talking about you guys BTW. Even if you didn’t feel prepared, you were at least like trying to do a good job haha)

I’ve taken 6 AP’s in high school (including APUSH, Calc, Physics, Chem) and this was THE HARDEST exam ever.

Everyone else from my class thinks so too.

I hate to bask in your misery Coolpillow, but it’s actually great to hear that.
At my school there are only 5 guys in AP Latin of which only 3 took the exam, and all of us were pretty well prepared.

I was afriad they were all like that haha :)

Since we were guinea pigs this year, however, we don’t really have a solid idea of what constitutes a 5.

I’m just hoping to pull off a 4 but im most probably going to get much less
