Also, when the ETS sends the official scores, do they show the score break down?
I’m really worried now! :(

From what I understand, the schools will see the subscore percentiles and the overall.

I’m in the same boat. I got an 88% Cell/Molecular Bio subscore, while the others are meh. But I have a heavy focus in Cell and Molecular Bio for my major. I’m considering sending that score to a school or two, so I’m very interested in this as well.

Yeah I was planning on sending my scores to all the schools because they state that subject tests are “strongly recommended”. Do you guys think sending my scores will hurt my application?

Interview offer from Emory today Feb 21-23

Congrats, zotzotzot13!

zotzot - there is another thread where we are compiling the interview information. If you would like to add your interview info, including program, it would be great.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/graduate-school/1427858-2013-biosciences-interview-dates.html

Mollie will be maintaining the thread and combining everyones contributions into the original first post. She did this today and it looks great.

Hoping my rec letters and statement of purposes will get me an interview.
Just wanted to contribute and not lurk on the discussion forums.

Good luck everyone!

@edukimi, are you interested in neuroscience? I saw Stanford’s neurosciences date on there. I tried to find an original post on here by you but I couldn’t.
Just wondering, if you’re doing neuroscience PhDs, where are you applying? It seems we may have some overlap

Do you mind telling us if you got Emory’s notification via email, phone or letter? I’m trying to keep an eye out

I’m getting a little antsy; this thread exploded on December 12 last year. It feels like offers are barely starting to trickle in for us, though!

*must… stop… manically refreshing this page…

@gt3230 I got it by phone

Did you guys submit gre subject test scores? I’m still debating on whether or not I should send mine.

@biotechstudent: I didn’t. Many programs state on their application FAQ page that submitting a subject test (Biology, BMB, etc.) is “highly recommended,” though.

biotechstudent, I took the subject and did slightly worse than you :). I decided not to send them, even though for some of my schools it was “strongly recommended”. It just seemed like it would hurt more than it would help. I’ve heard they’re worth submitting if scores are in the 80th percentile… my molecular was low 80s (83% maybe) but the others were down in the 50s/60s.

I’m not sure how much programs care about low scores in the non-relevant sections (please, like I care about phloem), but I just decided not to risk it.

Yeah I didn’t do so great on two sections of the biology test since my major emphasizes molecular bio/genetics I got 89% in cell molecular bio, 57% in organismal bio, and 44% in ecology and evolution. I was just wondering if it’s worth sending my scores since I’m applying to molecular bio programs and they “highly recommend” the test. I’m wondering if sending them will hurt my application or not.

I guess I’m just hoping that they will notice my molecular bio score because the programs are for molecular biology, but I guess I don’t want to risk it.

I went to an undergrad that is known for good science (UCSD) so I only sent them to the one school that required it. My scores were in the 70’s% so not worth it for me. I had a friend get interviews almost everywhere without it. she didn’t take it at all

Yeah…
UCSD way to represent

Interview invitation via e-mail from Pitt IBGP today.

Erbbie, I wouldn’t worry too much about interviews trickling in. Looking at grad cafe, a lot of schools don’t do interview offers until late december/early january.

Of course, not panicking is easier said than done… >_>
