@edukimi & @MicroB2012 --Thank you!! do you guys know anything about brown and UT Southwestern neuro?

princebear:you can go to www.thegradcafe.com and research the results.

@Th2Cell Thats right! I haven’t started suit shopping for interview season. Its totally an investment! We’ll wear these clothes during every poster/conference presentation for the rest of our scientific careers ;)

Have anyone applied to Biology/Biomedical Engineering/Neuroscience at MIT, JHU, UT Austin, Case Western, UW-Madison, UMN-Twin Cities, or UCI? Are there any updates like interviews or acceptances from those schools?

@msr420 I applied to the Biology & Biological Engineering programs at MIT. Haven’t heard from either. Based on grad cafe results in previous years, MIT BE sends interview invites mid Jan-mid Feb and it looks like MIT Biology sends them early Jan.

@msr420 - In my notes for past invites, I have some references to two of those MIT programs.

For the Biology, Jan 6 2012, Jan 7 2011, Jan 8/9 2010. All of those dates were the first Friday after New Years. Will that make it Jan 4, 2013 this year or will they not be ready in time?

For BCN, in the past there does not seem to be a single day that invites go out. On Grad Cafe forums, there is already one person who received an invite prior to xmas. In my notes, I had written a range from Jan 2 to Feb 8 for past invites.

^ Opps BCS not BCN. Too many different mnemonics.

I started suit shopping a few months ago and I couldn’t agree more. I don’t know where you live but Joseph A. Bank always has some sort of buy 1 get 2 free sale going on. I got 3 suits for the price of 1. Albeit I spend $450 on that one suit but I have to say they are the best fitting and most comfortable suits I have ever worn!! I’ve been trying to get my wife to let me buy more but I haven’t been very successful yet!!

diamedic17, hontoOishi: I just carry ear-marked copies of GQ to Macy’s and Nordstrom and try to create looks that are somewhat de rigueur…it’s a trying task on a budget, but that, in itself, is a translational skill that can be applied to one’s scientific career! :D

No suits! You don’t need to wear a suit to interviews, or to poster presentations later on. A pair of nice pants and a button-down shirt is perfectly appropriate for anything you’ll ever do in your scientific career.

I’m a woman, and I prefer to wear a skirt and a button-down or a sweater for these sorts of occasions, and I am definitely right on the edge of being overdressed. (And have been told so more than once.)

Oh, man, Don Draper lied to me… :(

NYU Sackler Neuroscience Interview- January 24-25

Interview invitation to UNC Chapel Hill BBSP- Interview dates Feb14-16th. I signed up for Duke that weekend, hopefully Duke will still allow me to switch my interview to Feb 1 :/

Neuron17! Good job! The NYU interview weekend rocks! And congrats to you, too, biotechstudent! Which programme did you apply to at Duke? I applied to Immunology and it has been very silent…ah, well.

On a different note, anyone going to the U of A at Tucson?

Thanks Th2Cell! Have you been to the NYU interview weekend before? What do they do that makes it different from other schools?

Thanks Th2Cell! I applied to the Cell Molecular Biology Program

Yessir/Yes’m Neuron17, I have! I interviewed for them once before, and it’s a great time. They take you out and about–some Broadway, some New York nightlife, and the grad students and faculty with whom I interacted were friendly and open. Have fun!

@Th2Cell, I am interviewing U of A Tuscon Jan 24-26

Me, too, zotzotzot13! I received a phone call from them asking which weekend I’d prefer, and I chose the 24-26th January one. I haven’t heard anything else, though…

I’ve noticed that Weill Cornell Neuroscience and Pharmacology programs are both on February 15th. Do all the programs have interviews on the same weekend? I’m already having a conflict with UNC chapel hill and duke so I emailed duke requesting to change my date to the first interview weekend, Feb 1st. Should I go ahead and ask UNC chapel hill to change my interview date as well? I applied to the Weill Cornell BCMB Allied program and last year they didn’t send out invites until 1/17!
