2013 Boarding School Acceptance Rates?

Why do you think I was implying the Hill School wasn’t worthy?!?!?

My goals are simple. Am just trying to get an advanced glimpse of recent admit rates (all of which will be public in a few months) and am limiting the list because I want people to respond. I have no desire to compile a list of the admit rates for EVERY SINGLE boarding school in the US – boardingschoolreview.com already does a commendable job of that.

The schools on the list have the lowest admit rates. That’s a fact, not a judgement. Also, I am sure many of you can tell how I came up with the list (which I will not explicitly state here because I ABHOR that acronyym).

@GMTplus7- Shame on you for resorting to name calling (snob!?!? condescending?!?!) That came completely out of left field for me.

Let’s all just be friends and sing Kumbaya. Here, how about we compromise at <25%. But seriously, fights on CC are long and unnecessary.

@sharpener,
2 other parents also thought your response to libetty55 appeared unkind. As you say, the 2013 admit rates for all schools will be public in a few more months. So what then is the big deal about about getting an early view of the data for the schools w admit rates in the teens, vs the schools w higher admit rates? Those rates aren’t likely to change by more than 2% points from year to year. Will 2% materially impact your decision on whether to apply to them?

I think this is easily solved. Sharpener would like the thread he started limited to a handful of schools.

It seems that a number of people would be interested in a more inclusive list.

Perhaps someone should just start another thread?

Anyone yet have the 2013 Acceptance rates from Lawrenceville, Deerfield, Hotchkiss or Milton (with source)?

Does anyone know if these acceptance rates include incomplete applications?

“Hotchkiss has a 12% percent admissions rate for the fall of 2013.”

^ What’s the source for Hotchkiss?

Would be ideal if you could provide a link to the source.

[Hotchkiss School - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Hotchkiss School - Wikipedia)
“Hotchkiss has one of the largest secondary school financial endowments in the country, and extremely competitive admissions, with a 12% acceptance rate in the fall of 2013.[5]”
Yeah, I know, I know it’s Wikipedia. But they are far more credible when it comes to boarding school, even more than prep school and boarding school review. (ironically)

prep…wikipedia is a great resource but for a recent stat like that, you can’t be sure it’s correct because anyone can make an edit, including eager Hotchkiss students (although I’m betting it’s correct). Call your admission’s office at Hotchkiss and ask; then, we’ll know whether Wiki is right or not.

Wiki’s Footnote 5 - “2011 Admitted Class Profile”

@walnuthill before the page was updated by whomever it showed the acceptance rate from the 2011 class. Whoever updated it on Wikipedia didn’t show the new source.

I doubt it’s 12% for Hotchkiss. If they had really reached that record low, they would have mentioned it in acceptance letters/school websites to, well, boast (see: Thacher and its mentioning of 78% yield rate EVERY SINGLE YEAR). 18%, as indicated on BSR, seems about right (when I was applying for 2012-2013, it was 16%).

I’m not saying that 12% is right or wrong however I doubt that Hotchkiss would boast because its not their usual fashion. Also I doubt that their acceptance rate would go up 2% considering it’s getting harder and harder to get into boarding school, not just hotchkiss.
