2015 Admit Rates and Stats

Thread to gather announced admit rates, applications, and yields…

From Hotchkiss:
March 10 was a memorable day for 346 prospective students who received notification that they were accepted to Hotchkiss. The diverse group of students are from 38 states and 30 foreign countries. Applications were up 8.4 percent, and the admit rate was 18 percent.

I thought admit rate was calculated from actual admissions, rather than offers. Is that inaccurate?

Acceptance rate = total acceptance offers/total applications. Admits = yield X total acceptance offers. Will not know yield numbers for schools until later, but there should be good data coming out now on acceptance rates and applicant growth. I only started this thread because last year during the application process I find myself chasing around a bunch of unconsolidated data on actual acceptance rates and applicant numbers in a wide array of threads. Seemed like it would be helpful to have it all in one place. If another such thread exists for 2015, I did not see it…

Yes, we need this thread. What is lacking, at this point, is the info from the schools. Should come out within next two weeks.

Here are some relevant facts

Andover: 3026 applicants/405 admits
https://www.andover.edu/Admission/WelcomeAdmittedStudents/Pages/FunFacts.aspx

Exeter: 2340 applicants/307 spots (# of admits not yet known)
http://exeter.edu/news_and_events/news_events_17556.aspx

Lawrenceville: 1857 applicants/379 admits
http://www.lawrenceville.org/news/item/index.aspx?LinkId=11642&ModuleId=76

The 307 number for Exeter is spots not acceptances. The number of admits is probably more like 450 given a 2/3 yield prediction.

@doschicos‌. You’re right. Thanks for catching!

Milton this year had 1400 applicants (up 30% from 1100 last year) for 250 admits/150 seats.

Numbers from an earlier thread,

That set of data from post #9 is from 2014 data.

@payn4ward‌ As I understand, Milton has 95 seats for 9th grade. There are more seats for 10th through 12th totaling around 150 (probably 145 total).

Anyone know about Peddie and/or Berkshire?

Wow… boardingschoolreview.com lies! Anyone know about Mercersburg? Pretty sure it’s not the “45%” acceptance rate that BSR claims.

Boarding School Review is not always updated as regularly as we might desire - although I would stop short of calling this a lie. Stale or outdated would be about the strongest language I would use.

That figure 45% is a year or two old (meaning from 2013 or earlier). I believe the latest rate (at least the latest I have seen) is 37%. I do not believe this year’s has been posted anywhere.

These numbers may change slightly after April 10. I’ll be able to add more info then, but the core stats from the current cycle are shaping up to look like: admit rate 12%, yield 80%. @corcaigh - congrats to your son - that was a tough feat to pull off.

Reading the descriptions of accepted students makes me so, so, so grateful my DD got into her dream school. Good thing the deposit’s already in!

Berkshire accepted 24% of applicants. Over 1200 applications were reviewed.

When I went to Exeter for my interview, I picked up a little red paper in the Admissions Office with statistics for the 2014-2015 year.

It said that in the current year, there were:
181 (91M, 90F) Preps
298 (158M,140F) Lowers
280 (156M, 124F) Uppers
304 (151M, 153F, includes PGs 26M, 6F) Seniors

There was a section below that which had the statistics for the New Students.
181 Preps (91M, 90F)
62 Lowers (33M, 29F)
37 Uppers (18M, 19F)
42 Seniors (26M, 16F includes PGS 26M 6F).

I was really surprised by these statistics because by looking at the amount of new lowers, that means there were 236 Preps last year which 50 more than this year. Then how many new lowers do you guys think were admitted this year?
Was the Lower class this year just exceptionally large?

Choate: average GPA of accepted student: 3.81, average GPA of waitlisted student: 3.8, so the difference really is about those ECs, SSATs, interviews, hooks, etc.
