2013 Dartmouth Transfers - Accepted and Going

To, but it looks like my sources and toofast’s success are on the same page; maybe yours was just trying to temper expectations

Any news? General correspondence from admissions?

Hey all,
So I have been told that Dartmouth has no clue on the status of the transfer waitlist. They will not even touch the transfer waitlist until they have fully finished the RD waitlist, barring significant exception.
Refer back to the waitlist of this thread for evidence of this practice (Stewart’s comment): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/467270-dartmouth-2008-transfer-applicants-11.html

*and by the look of the RD waitlist, we won’t hear anything for a few days at least.

AO told me they gave about 30 offers for RD wait list and went back for round three today to extend a couple more offers

I’m just going to be blunt at this point- they’re gonna take people! Cheer up! Positive thinking! The very fact that they continue t make offers is a clear sbn that they have room in the RD/soph transfer class. Today (or yesterday), vandy, Princeton, Yale, and many others just released the first round of their RD waitlist. Dartmouth will go on to have a round 4, I believe. Earliest were gonna hear is in about two weeks (they will get 10 days to decide) or more (e.g, round 4), at which point they’ll probably take 2-5 of us.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking the waitlist is random, is all I’m going to say, as well.

Oh yeah, they need 40-50 more students to fill their class (this is easy to look up), so if they’re aiming to take ~35 from the RD waitlist, they have to take a bit from the transfer waitlist to compensate (this comes from the assumption that the RD and transfer waitlists are related, which Dartmouth adcoms have previously pointed to- “Once the application process was completed, the pools of transfer students and first-year students were evaluated together when admissions officers decided the desired size of the Class of 2015”)

So the want a class size that allows for a waitlist increase of 40 students. They are taking around 35 students off the RD waitlist, with offers continuing to go out because they keep falling short of that. That leaves around 5 transfer spots.

Again, all assuming, but there’s a lot of evidence to point out these patterns. Le global warming except even more grating.

Freefly AO lady said round three is the final round, I don’t think they are going to do a round 4

Probably accepting students who promised to go.
Doesn’t affect the analysis to much just speeds it up bit

So the earliest we hear this time is probably next week

Remember when Megan Kelly asked Karl Rove after the election was clearly over, “Karl, is this just math you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better?”

That’s how I feel about all of the above posts

Optimistic, aren’t you?
The election, as it were, has not even metaphorically begun

I’ll just let this be said- whenever people have gotten off this waitlist, they said that they took the necessary steps. That goes beyond writing a letter and waiting.

Define necessary steps

If you were actually that confident that you’ll be getting off of the waitlist, I doubt you’d feel the need to consistently validate yourself…

Guessing end of this week we might get some updates maybe?

either this week or next. Sometimes on Fridays, admissions reps contact students and tell them that they have been accepted and the official invite will go out on Monday. Dartmouth’s done it once before for transfer waitlists.
Depends how many/if they’re gonna take any/if the RD waitlist invites weren’t enough to fill the '17 slots.

Haha maybe i am trying to validate myself, I’m sorry guys. I’m so nervous, acting confident makes me feel a bit better. But I stand by what I said before. You get yourself off the waitlist.

Yeah a lot of schools do that, since your the only one on this forum actively posting back and sounds like you have a strong chance too (given your acceptance to other schools) please do keep us updated here

Hi fellow waitlistees! I just wanted to let you know that I just got off of the waitlist (but I’m probably not going because of financial reasons). Good luck to everyone else!!!

To above poster, what’s your current school/stats and how did you find out
