**2013 Fall UCSD Transfer Decisions Thread **

Anyone from out of the state get in to UCSD?

Anyone else getting a system error message when logging onto myapplication? It tells me to report it to a customer service representative during normal business hours…weird

I am getting a system error when i try to log in… any chance of them doing another round soon?

I hope so!!! The suspense is killing me.

Got my acceptance letter in the mail today after getting an email yesterday telling me to check MyApplication.

Decision: Accepted (Warren College)

Objective:[ul]
[] UC GPA: 3.84
[] Major Pre-reqs Completed: All minus Calc 3, last two Physics
[] Intended Major: Chemical Engineering /
[] TAG?: No
[] IGETC?: No
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): None
[] Job/Work Experience: Five years working in law firm as legal assistant, among other part time jobs
[] Volunteer/Community service: None
[] Personal Statement: Didn’t have any real volunteer or extracurricular activities, so I relied mostly on my work experience.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
[] State: California
[] School Type: CCC (Irvine Valley College)
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Male
[] Estimated Family Contribution: 00000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): Dislocated worker, former lack of achievement and signs of improvement
[] Attending Transfer Admit Day?: Most likely, depends on if i hear back positively from my first two choices.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Maintained a straight 4.0 since returning to college after dropping out and working full-time. Having no family or safety net to rely on and having to work.
[] Weaknesses: Two Bs from the first attempt at school that I couldn’t replace prevented me from having a 4.0.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Probably the stark change from my prior academic record in high school and college to that after having returned.
[/ul]General Comments: My main choices were UCLA or UC Berkeley, but I applied also to Irvine and San Diego as backups with the fee waiver. I’m from Orange County, but after seeing the campus, I certainly wouldn’t mind going to UCSD.

Does anyone know the next date decisions will be coming out? I know it got pushed back last year to around when UCLA send them out, is that what’s happening this year too?

Does anyone know if there has been a facebook group set up for admitted transfer students? I can’t seem to find one…

@Heartgirl1: April 20th is when they came out last year, so this year it will prob be around then.

@reg214: There is a UCSD Facebook group, but you have to be invited to it by UCSD.

Does it seem to anyone else that time is moving in slow motion? It seems like two months have gone by in the last 11 days. I know I need to wait until April 20th, and yet I still check my application a few times a day, which does not help time move any faster…

Yes, time is going by very slow! I have been checking multiple times a day too, maybe I’m getting a little obsessive.

Anyone have an idea of how much missing 3rd semester physics will affect Mechanical Engineering transfers?

Technically I’m missing the “highest level of computer programming offered at the community college” as well, but there is no course articulation associated with my school and UCSD with respect to that so it doesn’t appear that it’s an “official” requirement listed on assist.org (of course, the more bells and whistles, the better).

I have a 3.97 GPA, 4.0 major GPA, with all other prereq’s complete and was just rejected from UCSB so I’m curious if I’m doomed for all the UC schools I applied to (UCSD, UCB, & UCI). Interestingly enough, the only school I have 100% complete prereq’s for is UCB, but I can’t really imagine them accepting me after being rejected from UCSB.

Thoughts? Anyone else in a similar spot?

UCSB rejected you because it seems that they have an auto-reject policy if you’re missing a pre-req. This may not be the case at other schools, a 3.97 definitely gives you a shot at Cal.

There are many people on this forum that get rejected by a mid-tier but get into a high-tier.

Thanks for the insight/support… I really needed it today. Best of luck everyone.

I am an Aerospace Engineering student, which is really just specialized mechanical engineering and I am missing my 3rd semester of physics also. I haven’t heard back from any UC’s yet, although I did not apply to UCSB but what you said just really scared me! I have completed all of my other classes except that one. I have a 3.79 GPA and a 4.0 major GPA. I applied to UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UCB, and Cal Poly Pomona. I got accepted to Cal Poly but I really want to go to a UC

Yeah… I’m not sure how strict UCSD is. I’m sure the bottom line is there are many qualified applicants who would do well and there’s simply not enough spots.

My current chemistry teacher works for the University of California and said he’d be very surprised if I was rejected to any schools… I’m going to have to give him a hard time when I get off of spring break if I don’t hear some good news. He’s been assuring me good things for about two months now! :P

Well I’m very surprised that UCSB rejected you! I know people who have gotten in with GPAs lower than yours, however they probably had all their coursework done. Most schools don’t mind if you are missing one or two classes though. I think you just got unlucky.

I wouldn’t be too worried if I were you though. I’d say with your GPA UCSD and UCI are a given, and you have a decent chance for UCB!
