Personal Statement: Wrote about my experiences working with animals . I’m an incredibly passionate person and I talked about my upbringing and how that made me a compassionate person. Corny? No, I didn’t think so. Honest? Yes.

State (if domestic applicant): Illinois
School Type: Community College
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Hispanic (Mixed Nationalities )

Hooks: First generation college student, paying my way through school, designed a research project as a part of my internship for the Chicago Zoological Society, assisted researchers as they examined anthropogenic effects on migrating gray whales.

Strengths: Possible my 3.7 GPA and 4.0 Major GPA. Doubt my 29 ACT, 1960 SAT helped T_T

Weaknesses: Yeah… I don’t know if being out of state crippled me, lol. Also, my essays could’ve been infinitely better. It sucked though. I was working 40 hours a week while going to school full time . It was poor time management of my part, but certainly my writing in that essay wasn’t an accurate reflection on my actual writing skills.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: It’s rough for out of state transfers . Also, I would have worked more on my essays . I worked on them while I was working full time. In retrospect, I knew that my essays weren’t the best quality (I typed them up while I was chopping up food for kangaroos). No regrets applying though :)

General Comments: Congrats to all of you that were accepted! Be grateful and happy! Trust me, there are plenty of students who wish they were you :)
