I'm really not trying to be offensive here, but exactly how is this helpful?

Yeah, isn't it a lot more helpful once decisions come out?

Couple of points regarding how it can be helpfull.

You can look at an applicant profile and make an opinion.

When the result are published and if the same candidate post their accptances/rejection/waitlist. A lot more can be inferred from it than just from the result thread.

I might be wrong but that is what I think can provide a more meaningful information than just the results thread alone.

Okay, so I get part 1, but not really 2... can you explain?

I don't mean to offend the original poster, but it is clear that the OP is just an over-obsessive parent because the OP has posted this in tons of other forums, MIT, Columbia, etc.

I do not think this may be of too much help, rather than being just 'informative'.
I did not start any thread or post too many posts so far, though some in the last year and two years ago.

My D had similar stats 5 years ago. We never take 'chance threads' too seriously.

Wow those are pretty amazing stats. How does your S like Princeton so far?

He is truly happy there, much involved in the school paper, his campus job and all sorts of groups. quote "My free time has decreased 500%, compared with my high school days."

can't help being a teeny bit envious of englishteacher88's D & S

Objective:

Other

State (if domestic applicant): Maryland

School Type: Competitive Public

Ethnicity: Black

Gender: Male

Income Bracket: Middle Class

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM

Strengths: Minority Status + really good test scores for a black male, good writer, leadership, but also different because I'm really strong in the arts (which is my passion)
Weaknesses: My class rank is so bad. Even though I've taken the most APs in my grade, I'm ranked 29/330. Yeah it's top 10%, but it's still like icky.... . Also my SAT has the potential to be bad. I have yet to take it, but I hope I do well (I got a 222 on the PSAT).

eating food, with your current stats along with URM, you are very promising. Do not worry too much about your class rank. It is relative to many factors. When you show passion in your application materials for the school, your prospective major and who/what you are, you will have a shot. My understanding is that to convince others thta you are a good candidate you have to prove you have the best qualities of being a 'social man' with social responsibilities , being humane in the first place. Do not brag what you have achieved academically, because the numbers and scores will speak for you in that aspect. I hate to edit essays, bragging essays. After all, you are 17 or 18, how much have you achieved in the past 3 or 4 years ? Also, how to give a strong coherent ending to your essay, your short answers is important. All these, combined, really present a full vivid picture of you as an applicant. Proofread each and every word you write very carefully.

• SAT: CR: 730, M: 780, W: 650 (retook in Oct - this time I wasn't woefully under prepared for the essay)
• SAT II: Math II C: 800, Chemistry: 780, US Hist: 800
• GPA: UW: 3.94, W: 4.24 (will be 4.33 after 1st quarter grades)
• Rank: 1/520
• Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): AP: US Hist (5), Calc BC (5), Euro Hist (5), Chem (4), Bio (4), Eng Lang (4)

Personal
• Location: Los Angeles, CA
• High School Type: Public (2500 students)
• Ethnicity: White
• Gender: Male

Other
• Extracurricular: Jazz Band, Academic Decathlon, Science Bowl
• Awards: History Day LA County Team Member, AcaDeca Team High score

I'm applying to Princeton. The first time I got a letter from them I pretty much chucked it, barely reading any of it, it just wasn't interesting to me. Now, it's pretty much one of my top choices... go figure.

Same here, I didn't think about it before, but now I am liking it more and more.

Stats:
[ *] SAT: 2070 (650 CR, 720 M, 700 W) - Project a 2150-2200 on October SAT (not sure what it is just yet b/c haven't gotten scores)
[ *] SAT IIs: 800 Chem, 800 Math II, 740 Physics
[ *] ACT: 35, one sitting (36 E, 36 M, 34 R, 34 S), with 8 on writing - the ACT is a much better test for me, if you couldn't tell, so my SAT score really doesn't matter unless it's a 2340+ (which it probably won't be.. the purpose of my SAT is for NM finalist)
[ *] unweighted GPA: 4.0 all A's
[ *] Rank: School Does Not Rank (maybe either Valedictorian or Salutatorian.. probably Salutatorian if I do get one of these two b/c I took band all 4 years in high school)
[ *] AP Classes: 10 AP classes total (5 tests so far - AP Human Geography [3: screwed up on this test..], AP World History [4], AP Chemistry [5], AP Physics B [5], AP Calculus AB [5] ---- 5 tests I am taking this year - AP Calculus BC, AP Literature, AP Biology, AP Language, AP Government)
[ *] I also had 8 honors classes throughout high school (plus those basic regular courses that we all had to take... i hated those courses)

Subjective
[ *] Essays: Good (I need to do some work on them, so I hope I can get them up to "great" status)
[ *] Teacher Recs: Great
[ *] Counselor Rec: Great
[ *] Supplemental Material: Maybe (maybe a music supplement to show the musical side of my life.. and maybe a chapter from my senior thesis [look at last section] to show the kind of research i'm doing)
[ *] Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.): N/A
