Plum, my daughter had primary in right away…amcas said she wouldn’t be verified till comm letter came in. She went to amherst, they don’t send letters till aug 15th. She was then berified right after that. Maybe things have changed but she def could not be verified until th comm legtter came in. She…ok, me, was flipping out because everybody said that aug 15th was too late. She then was told that schools knew od amherst policy of comm letter date and didn’t hold against applicant. So d was not verified until almost sept! Applied to 32, had invites to 23, went to 13 and accepted to 9. Late verification was strssfull but everything a ok in end. Btw, her host for school she ended up at was from your UG!

To ad to my post, people that submitted at same time as saughter were complete WAY before her. It was def the com leter that held her up.

DS was verified without a committee letter. His school does one but the online system that they use doesn’t indicate that it has been submitted. His LOR’s are all in, but no committee letter. He told me he was going to call the pre-med advisory office to make sure that they have everything they need to get it done.

VAMom – Congrats on liftoff! Good to move on to the next stage. Hope he’s feeling better soon!

Ohiomom, amherst had lor’s included with the comm letter, so nothing submitted till whole thing in august. Maybe that was diff? Anyways, for those of hyou or kids that are applying, medschools know the timing of schools and don’t hold it against applicants.

Good to know GA2012MOM that the schools don’t hold it against the applicants if the committee letter isn’t in. I don’t know when my son’s school typically submits the committee letter. Hoping it’s sooner rather than later, but not worth worrying about since it’s out of his control.

Oh mom, daughter is on the admissions comittee at her medschool, gthey def know the timelines of diff schools. Pm me if you want more info.

LOR are not required for verification-- D has already been verified without them. Verification is for transcript information and has nothing to do with letters. Letters are necessary to be considered complete at schools (with secondary submission).

Verified and complete are two separate terms.

Son was verified without all his LORs being in. His school does a committee letter but he was “disinclined” to participate! He needed all 10 of his LORs and MCAT and transcript(s) multiple schools to be “complete”.

His submitted his primary early second day (first day servers were jammed) and his transcripts were already there, so he was verified within a day or two. That year after a week of submitting the primary it took weeks to be verified.

It didn’t really play a part into his interviews other than he had interviews lined up by August and first interviews attended late August and early September. It did play a part in getting acceptances as early as possible in October along with scholie money. They hadn’t spent it all yet!

Kat

Isn’t being verified the action of matching the transcript from the school to the classes typed in. It’s been several years, but I did not think verification had anything to do with anything other than the transcript.

DS’s transcripts have all been received and now the wait for them to review the application begins! One of the transcripts was waiting for verification until today.

ohiomom, congratulations on getting verified. vamom, yeah for getting submitted. I do think the process this year is significantly different from last year. Everything was late and took forever last year.

<a href=“After the interview, is the decision based on just the interview result or the entire application? | Student Doctor Network”>http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/threads/after-the-interview-is-the-decision-based-on-just-the-interview-result-or-the-entire-application.1079669/

For those applying and hopefully interviewing in the next few months, try above link at SDN. The posts may be of interest, especially starting at #20.

The process takes another step further today with AMCAS release of verified apps to schools and some secondaries being sent! D has not spent much time writing yet, but didn’t apply to 15+ schools, so she’s feeling ok with waiting until now (enjoyed her last couple of free weeks).

DS has had his application reviewed and has received a number of secondaries. He’s busy writing all the essays. He’s got many done and ready for us to read for editing before he sends them. He has to get them all done before Sunday! He leaves for a month’s training and won’t have access to electronics! Hope everyone else is doing well on the secondaries!

Ugh! This is miserable. So many essays and while they duplicate each other a lot, they also need to be somewhat unique. He’s slowly getting them out, but between applying for jobs, his work, his “other” activity that takes a lot of time, he’s trying to get them out. Fortunately, he has not gotten them all at once. I suppose probably that means something, but not sure what.

VAmom, what’s your son doing? A month away from electronics should be what ALL kids experience.

limabeans–My DS is in ROTC and is heading to a month of leadership training. He’s stressing because he’s trying to get all the essays done now so I can send them if any secondaries arrive while he’s gone. So far he’s only had one school come out with different essays than last year’s, so hopefully his plan will work. If a school changes anything it will have to wait until he returns.

Does anyone know if LOR’s are required before schools give Interview invitations? DS is sending in secondaries now. He has to have his LOR’s sent from his undergrad (committee letter). They are waiting on one letter. What happens if this letter continues to be delayed? (Dr. is military and is being deployed. He’s written letter, and sent DS a copy via email but the university hasn’t received the signed copy). Just wondering how this will effect his application process.

Applications need to be complete before an invitation will be extended.

Applications are not complete until all required LORs have been received.

I remember panicking last year when D2’s school delayed sending out committee letters until mid-late August. But she starting receiving IIs literally within 10 days of schools downloading her LOR from AMCAS.

IIRC, both kristin and GAMom’s D had later committee letters (early Sept and mid August respectively); both also started receiving IIs within 2 weeks after the committee letter was transmitted to AMCAS.

IOW, the delay is aggravating, but it won’t harm his application.

Thanks again WOWM! At least we won’t be wondering why he hasn’t gotten II’s yet. He’s trying to track down the Dr. and hopefully get him to send another copy of the letter! As if there wasn’t enough to stress about!
