I’m with Demiitasse when it comes to applying to other schools should I get into Yale early (haha). Early admits have the right to apply to other schools, but it’s not like I would apply to the top 60 colleges just to say I got into all of them (I heard a person did that once). I might apply to Northwestern since it’s closer to my family and maybe a couple others just in case it turns out Yale isn’t my best fit.

I probably shouldn’t say this but all this talk about the malls and outlets makes me want to go there more :P

And I sort of wish Yale wasn’t in the Ivy League too!! I have a genius friend who was like “Well, I’ll apply to Yale but I don’t think my mom would ever let me go because of New Haven…” So he’ll probably take my spot if I even have a chance haha

Just checking in…I have been at the beach… catching up with the chat. My Yale interview is Friday and my mom and I are leaving early Thursday morning. We will swing by Princeton on the way home so I can at least see the campus. I have been talking to lots of people, and reading lots of blogs, and Yale sounds AMAZING!!! I hope everyone is having a great summer!!!

Ahhhh I’m so excited for you Emily! Good luck and most of all, have fun!!! :D

Good luck 2010emily! I’m sure you’ll do great!
chair2, haha, yeah SF is so amazing and CA is just so warm and makes you feel happy
If I go to a school on the East Coast, the cold is going to be crazy! I get cold really easily haha.

emily, you’re there??? good luck!! doesn’t yale have the most gorgeous campus? i stopped by for a quick infosession+campus tour about a month ago, along with upenn and columbia

thnx for the info demiitasse, but ya we should stop. if i get in, um i’d faint.
and if we are ever so lucky to both get in, u know what that means…SHOPPING!!!
…voice in head: mb think about shopping there, AFTER you get in there…? lol. yaa same, i just love the school, and for me, no other school even comes close it. (btw, don’t you just love chuck+blair? <3)

cavalierpup: omg that’s soooo annoying. can’t u like…talk to her? =S

GOOD LUCK emily!!! hope ya have a blast at the interview! heard both yale and princeton’s campus are AMAZING so have lots of fun :)

hahah yeah, i like the whole palm trees, beach idea of california, but I don’t know…I’m way more attracted to the east coast? haha. Would LOVE to go to stanford though…they have some great departments and such that I’m really interested in.

Demiitasse and solittletime-- hahahh yeahhh i know me too! My style is still really girly but ever since Gossip Girl, I’ve been dressing more preppy. Still more boho than preppy but I’ve been wearing a lot of headbands lately (gotta love Blair!). Right now, I’m a good mix between Blair and Serena. My casual outfits are def. more Serena but when I get dressed up, I’m more like Blair. Hope that made sense haha.

Can’t believe we got on the topic of clothes again hahah! But demiitasse–SOO excited when you mentioned all the shopping places around Yale. Made me fall in love with it even more hahah.

I’m retaking in Oct too! A lot of people take it then…
Aiming for 2300+ I’m happy with my score last time (2230) but my CR and M was really low. I KNOW i can do better in Math…it’s not hard, I just go really fast and make stupid mistakes. A lot of them. I mean, I’m in calculus. I should be able to do this stuff! It’s quite frustrating but at least I know I have the ability to do better. CR is hard for me though…Last time, there was one word I didn’t know and it seriously showed up like 5 times during the whole test. And then again on an English test I had to take the next Monday. =[

Haha there were like 3 more pages and I only left for like…a day.

But wow, IF i get in Yale SCEA (and that’s a big huge fat IF haha) I probably will apply to Columbia and Princeton and that’s it since those are my other top choices. Even though I love Yale, I might discover something about Columbia that I absolutely fall in love with. Like in Gilmore Girls, when Rory was CONVINCED she was going to Harvard but ended up at Yale because of the pro/con list…and it was like perfect for her. (hahah I hope someone knows what I’m talking about). I’m not counting on getting in SCEA so I’m gonna go ahead and do my other apps.

Having the hardest time with essays. Ugh. I just can’t capture…myself. It either sounds wayyy too serious (since I’m pretty light hearted, joking around laughing type, it doesn’t seem like “me”) or just plain fake or something. Or else it’s too random and goofy (which is more like “me” but it just doesnt sound that good either). goodness. Let’s hope I have some more luck with them this afternoon.

SMIILLLEEE!!!
oh em gee you’re like my twin gurl!! seriously its creepy…
YES (ya it made sense) i never used to wear headbands before and now i own like 8!! and it’s all cuz of blair! a slight difference with me is that my more casual looks tend to be a bit more edgy, more blair but when i get really dressed up its more serena
YES the second demitasse was talking about it, i was like crap, i just had to ask for it didn’t i? falling more in love with yale is so not what i need
YES stupid math section, nothing’s hard, but u make a couple of dumb mistakes, get it wrong and the score drops by sooo much
and OMG YES, i DO know what your talking about, i was thinking about that EXACT EPISODE of gilmore girls. if i can get into a few colleges i really like, i’m so gonna go to a diner (like luke’s) and make pro/con lists =) but ya, i’m not expecting to get in SCEA either
I KNOW, like if i’m really being me, i sound like…almost ditzy and too goofy? i dont think that how i wanna come off in a a yale essay, either that it or it becomes too corny, or fake, or dramatic, or ugh, like i can’t seem to find a way to just write a good essay i’m happy about that’s me…

ahh yall are ALL like my twins!! haha I definitely want to be fashionable-ish, but preppy, but not too uptight looking? ahh Maybe i am overthinking this. And I think I am overthinking the essays like ya’ll are too! I want to share my “voice” but I want to sound smart and professional too. Thanks for all the “good luck emily”'s! I am really excited but a little nervous about the interviews. I hope the questions don’t stump me too much. We will see!

haha! #3 is a really cool question! i’d be an exclamation mark!!!
a friend of mine told me that in interviews instead of saying ‘ummmm…’ to stall, you say ‘welllll…’ because it sounds better than ‘ummm’. haha.

Hahah awh I totally love this! I thought I might be the only Yale applicant that was so interested in …trivial stuff like clothes and Gossip Girl. ahahah
EMILY you HAVE to tell us how your interview goes! I’m excited for ya! I bet ALL of us girls are WAY overthinking our outfits haha

solittletime-AHHH haha this is so cool! I just got like 5 new headbands this summer! And most of them are sooo blair. I’m starting to like looking all put together like Blair. But only when I dress up. Otherwise, that would be wayyy too much work in the morning haha and I KNOW. every single question is just so darn important. and giiiirl I am TOTALLY making a pro/con list of my top 3 colleges and we have a coffeeshop (as close as I can get to a diner hah) that’ll be perfect for making it!

That’s EXACTLY what I was feeling! I wanted “voice” but that might be really random and ditzy which might come off as plain stupid. My friends know me really well and know that I’m not stupid…just a little goofy or slow (haha like early in the morning). But I don’t want the admissions people to think I’m dumb! What to do. What to do.

I would definitely be an exclamation mark! In fact, in the 8th grade, my teacher 'threatened" to make me write another paper if he got another paper from me with exclamation marks. And sometimes I feel like I never end my sentence in a period when I speak. It’s either a question mark or an exclamation mark (I’m either happy or confused I guess haha) but question #1 I would have to think loong and hard about. That would be kinda hard to answer. I always think I would sound really stuck-up or snobby when I answer those kind of questions. Thoughts on how to answer #1??

Melody–GOOOOD suggestion. I always say “um” or “like” …just a way to fill the silence when I’m thinking about what to say next haha but it makes me sound kinda ditzy. “Well” is definitely a better substitute. Now if I can just remember that…

Gonna go swiiiim and try to catch some sun if ya know what I mean. Just got a new bathing suit so I’m totally excited (even though that makes me sound like I’m still in middle school or something haha). Hopefully there won’t be 3 pages by the time I’m back :)

I don’t understand how you all plan your outfits so much, hahaha. If I had an on-campus interview, I’d put together what I was wearing the day before/day of, lmao. By the way: Good luck with that interview, Emily!

In other news, I had a super long day.

I wrote more of my essay and it’s a lot more “me” now. I’ve never edited anything to the extent that I’m editing this, haha. It’s so ridiculous. I’m keeping everything I’ve written so far for this essay in one document, so I have all of my rewrites and everything. So far, the document contains 1,324 words, and I only really like 281 of them. Teeedioussss.

Wow, I went away for like 24 hours and the posts on this thread multiplied like bacteria.

Smile—do any of your headbands include little lopsided bows? Because then you would TRULY be a Blair

I totally got you guys on the whole outfit thing, and I concur…ever since watching Gossip Girl I’ve seriously upped the ante in terms of my “prep wear.” I don’t really know what I’d call my style because it doesn’t fit into ANY category. I’m one of those people who just wears what she happens to like that day, but it can change on any given day. I usually go in the more artsy direction (lots of scarves, funky sunglasses, Keds, and vests), but I also own a rugby shirt that is one my all time favourite shirts. I like that though…I’m hard to classify

Guys…NO Gilmore Girl reference is lost on me. I am Rory in essence. I have a single mom and we’re tight like spandex, I’m managing editor of my school newspaper, I have an INSANE, high-society aunt who has (unbeknownst to her) quoted Emily Gilmore word for word, and the scene in which Lorelai and Rory visit Harvard and she’s standing outside the library and she can’t breathe…that was my mom and I when we went to visit Yale (on an unplanned road trip mind you, although she wasn’t escaping her wedding day or anything haha). The only ways we’re opposite is that I live near Harvard and want to go to Yale whereas she lived near Yale and wanted to go to Harvard…so I’ll probably end up at Harvard if that pattern continues ;)

Working on my essays too, although I actually love all of them! They’re not done, but I have a bunch that’ll work and I really feel like they’re me…suggestion to struggling writers, if you can work with music turn on your favorite song while you write, it’ll help you get back in touch with yourself and make your narrative voice come out sounding like you, which I know is hard to do sometimes.

^ I know what you mean. Random songs remind me of a bunch of stuff and give me inspiration. (For those of you who’ve been around for a while, I stopped writing my essays to Boom Boom Pow, haha. Got sick of it.)

I hope I actually get to meet some of you at Yale, in a year. Crazy to think it’s so soon.

PS, we should have a semi-lame CC party when (if? pfft) we get there. And disguise it as something ridiculous, like a toga party or something.

YES PLEASE. Or we could go eat heavenly new haven pizza, or Ashley’s ice cream, or we could go shop! Haha j/k about the shopping part ;]
You all sound amazing and I wish I could meet you! <3
Lol how would we identify ourselves? We could wear little name tags and no one else would understand what they meant lol!

…“if” is the big sad word =/

Hmmm. It’ll probably be pretty difficult to find each other among 1000+ new freshmen. There goes the plan.

Damnit.

When you have the fun CC reunion party, I could still come even if I am at a different school, sigh…sniffle. I love the name tag idea even though mine isn’t very creative, why did you pick the name you did???

Emily that’s a great idea! I would just come from whatever school I was just to meet everyone lol ^^;

Haha well my name is Demi, and I love french and coffee, so demitasse is the french word for a kind of petite cup for a strong type of coffee, and then someone took the e-mail demitasse, so I added another ‘i’ and it stuck lol!

We could just pick a corner to meet up and act awkward by suspiciously squinting at any stranger who walks by just to look for a name tag lol! Or we could write “CC 2014 SCEA Yale Thread” in big bold letters or something! Haha
OR by the time we get in, we could facebook friend each other and find out what each other looks like lol. Or we could do that now? I know people online here are kind of sensitive about privacy and such though.

Hahaha. We should have a huge banner. Because that wouldn’t be conspicuous at all.

I chose my username because I was far too young to join CC. Nuff said.

My name’s Daniel, though, since we’re all sharing. :)
