Yeah…but I just don’t feel compelled to do anything…I keep telling myself, “But it’s not really up, so what if that’s not the real one?” and while I know it is I’m using this as an excuse to not start filling it out 0:-)

Any suggestions for writing a “Why ____ University?” short answer for a university you’re not dying to go to. Because right now my answer is this “It’s a pretty good school that’s close to home with stats that virtually guarantee my acceptance…oh, and the huge Jewish population is a pretty big turn on too.”

BUT I CAN’T SAY THAT? So what do I say?!

The Jewish population is a legit thing to say, just back it up with more about the actual university. I’ve read that it’s good to research possible professors you’d like to study with, or things you’d take advantage of if you were to enroll. Yale admissions people always say that they look for students who will best take advantage of the opportunities presented to them at the college, and so this essay is the perfect moment to show exactly what you would take advantage of. If there’s nothing, really, then just make something up. :)

I’m not sure, though. I think I’ll start a thread in either the college essays section or the common app section to see what good “Why [college]?” essays are like.

Wow I was gone for three days and now there are a dozen more pages to this thread haha. The supplement isn’t up yet? Gah! Though I’m with it’s been real… and I still haven’t started my main essay either haha… eh o_o

I feel behind… can’t believe college apps are actually here, it’s always been in the distant future for me. ah well, and i still havent taken the ACTs…yikes.

i’m confused, there’s a “why yale” ESSAY? like a full lenght multi paragraph essay? where would that go? the space on the supplement is tiiinyyy

^Nah, it’s more like a short answer/paragraph kinda deal.

itsbeenreal–I totally know what you mean. But I try to look at the programs/majors and things they have that got me interested and elaborate on that. And how it matches my interests or whatever. It’s hard…but once you’re on a roll, it shouldnt be TOO bad. I’ve only written like 2 and they have the same format/structure but with different adjectives and specific facts hahah.

I think we all pretty much agree that Yale is suuuure taking its time getting the CommonApp supplement up hahahah.

sora–that INSANE about the snow! but the foreign exchange dude from australia talked about that and how “cold” it was here and how he didn’t own any long sleeves until now hahah.

Harvard–Wow you’ve done some really interesting research! Just be careful about submitting too many supplemental stuff. I’ve just heard that unless it really offers another side to you that the rest of your app doesn’t cover, it can be kinda a bother for adcoms.

solittletime, I wasn’t talking about Yale, I was actually talking about Brandeis, to be specific, but a lot of colleges have that.

Yale doesn’t require an essay (neither does Brandeis), but they do ask for like a paragraph I think…

Wait, grammar correction (I just have to). Smile…you said “too many stuff” and I just have to point out that you should say “too MUCH stuff” “too MANY things”

okay, that’s my grammar lesson for the day :)

ahhhh thank ya itsbeenreal haha! I’ll keep that in mind…especially for SAT writing =]
goodness knows how my writing score is the highest when i’m horrible at little picky grammar stuff. hahah! i’ll DEF. need you to edit some of my essays huh? (and my other grammar freak friend. she’s like…the grammar nazi or something. she’ll point out EVERY. SINGLE. mistake. haha i looove it. except when she interrupts me in a middle of one of my long pointless rants about nothing whatsoever haha)

Congrats on 50 pages guys!! We all officially have no lives.

rofl at it’s.been.real’s comment.
correction: we are the ultimate procrastinators.=]
and btw, i meant the yale site had the supplement up…?

lol!! three days with no computer is a HUGE mistake…at least went it comes to this thread =P
i can’t believe a missed a serious gilmore girls conversation…can we have another one? pleeease? lol, just kidding. i’ll just say, rory is one lucky girl to have dated all those awesome guys. jessss rocks.

wow, you guys with all your researching and volunteer projects and connections. i feel so inadequate. =[
i just realized i’ve written 10 drafts of my common app essay. i haven’t gotten past half way in any of them.

Yeah, we know it’s up on the site, but it’s not up on the commonapp, which is really starting to suck, I must say

And almostcrimes: we can definitely have another Gilmore conversation, but privately somehow because rocker will find us and murder us all.

ULTIMATE PROCRASTINATORS. (Yo, I say that if any fraction of us gets into Yale, within the first week of school we should have a tie dying party out on the Freshman Quad and put iron-on letters on the shirts that say ULTIMATE PROCRASTINATOR #1, 2, 3 etc. however many of us there are).

ALSO, we need to adjust this purple shirt plan a little, I think it would be way more fun to do it during BDD than during the first night of school. But of course, this is all just planning ahead, and we all know that planning ahead just leads to disappointment. sigh

No, we all know that planning ahead, when in any way related to purple shirts and Yale University, only ever leads to exceeded expectations. AWKWARDSENTENCEAWKWARDSENTENCEAWKWARDSENTENCE

Yo, so we shud totaly all lyke go to yeil & lyke plan ahed all yeer, yo.

TIE DYING!! i’ve recently become obsessed with that. and i’ve only done it once hahah. we’ll be the coolest freshmen ever.
so true about the procrastinating. every time I decide to read my AP Lit summer assignment book, I decide to check CC or facebook. hahahah. or whenever I get stuck on an essay.

exceeded expectations. hahah i hope i’m not the only one that thought of harry potter when I read that hahaha. :)

do whatever yall want with this purple shirt plan…as long as I actually get to be part of it hahah. Stupid 7% acceptance rate. we’ll just not think about that right now.

SO every time I write an essay, I end up not liking it was much like 2 days later. uh oh. I’m working on another one now…let’s hope I still like it by tomorrow.

my friend told me she was in NH and I immediately though NEW HAVEN hahahah and freaked out. And when she got confused about why I was so excited I realized she was talking about New Hampshire…hahahah. this is getting insane.

wow, 10 drafts already? i really better get started…lol . when do most people actually start submitting apps for scea?

It doesn’t matter. You can’t be penalized for submitting an app late, so long as it’s before the deadline.

I don’t like telling people I’m applying to Yale (there are probably only like 10 people in total who know) and so I say that I’m “considering this school in New Haven” and no one ever catches on. I love it.

I just got back from a great workout.

LOL, you’re acting like a Yalie already. When people ask them where they go to school a lot of them just say “Connecticut,” and smile.

I hide it from people too, whenever people ask me where I’m applying or what my first choice/dream school is I evade the question by saying “I’m just applying to a bunch of schools that I’d be happy at…trying to minimize disappoint,” which is true, I just happened to have ONE school that doesn’t fit that category ;)
