Congratulations GCmom. My wife cried when S got his first one.
Congratulations!
Son has 2 day interview next week. He’s supposed to get a decision from couple of schools he already interviewed with at the end of first day. Really nervous for him.

Apparently October and November is considered the most busy months for getting interviews

We found this to be true as well.
Congrats and best wishes to all with upcoming interviews and/or those who are waiting for decisions. We were so happy that one of son’s med schools was known to accept within 72 hours of an interview. I know that’s not typical, but it was nice.
I keep hearing some results will be out on 15th. Texas schools tell OOS students on that day but wait for a month longer to release it to the residents.
Slight correction: SOME results will come out on October 15.
Oct 15 is the earliest date schools are allowed to contact accepted students under AMCAS Traffic Rules. (TMDSAS has its own rules.)
But admission decisions will keep dribbling out well into March. (And students can be taken off the waitlist as late as the first day of med school orientation.)
Son can potentially hear back from 4 schools on the 15th. Is it usually an email or a phone call? And if it’s a phone call, Is it during the day or evening. He’s going to be in the all day interview both 15th and 16th and usually turns off his phone. Do they leave a message if they don’t get you? These probably all sound like silly questions but he’s concerned what would happen if they can’t reach him. I told him that if they’re calling with an acceptance it’s not like they will go down the list and accept someone else just because he doesn’t answer. Lol.
Good to know what type and timeframe of contact schools will be using. That being said, once an admission has been offered I expect the schools will follow up if they don’t hear back. As a point of historical/ anecdotal interest, back in the day (1980s) prior to emails and texts, I never received my admittance to Emory med school, however, the school after not hearing back from me reached out to my college dean who eventually chased me down…so they never gave my spot away even a few months out from the admit. Obviously not an ideal course of events, but nonetheless somewhat reassuring. Good luck to all.
RE: Oct 15th contacts–
How a school contacts accepted students is school dependent. Some call; some send a email; some are posted on the school admissions portal.
If the admission dean calls and the student’s phone is off, s/he will leave a voicemail. (D2 had Oct 15th acceptance but didn’t check her voicemail until the 17th–which is when she found out. Doh!)
Phone calls can come at any time. IIRC , a CC poster mentioned he received his first acceptance via personal phone call right after midnight EST on the 15th. But D2’s apparently came in the middle of the afternoon according to timestamp.
Our state school actually sends letters before they update the portal. Students close to campus can find out on the 15th but where we live the mail takes one or two days. He could hear from three other schools that day, one with a call and the other via email. In both cases, they only do acceptances at that point, so no rejections are expected that day. Fingers crossed for all of you.
LOL!
Back in the day—our state med school used to send out acceptances via signature-required registered mail to the student’s permanent address. I remember signing for a registered letter from the SOM and impatiently waiting for D1 to get off work so she could drive over to my house to open it. (D1 didn’t live with me, but, being a student, moved frequently so has always listed my address as her permanent address.)
The state SOM now notifies by email–which is easier on everyone’s nerves
Son got an email with a video!. I woke up to a text “I’m in”, got the video later and it was epic. Sending you and your kiddos great vibes. Remember, it only takes one!
My son received his first acceptance of the season this AM!
Congratulations! I hope this is the first of many for him and for the others on this thread.
Thank you! Good luck to all those applying this cycle!
Son got first acceptance!! I’m soooo happy, I’m crying.
Congratulations to S and you.
Congratulation to those with happy news!
And to those still waiting–there’s still lots of time left before March 15.
Yay to those with acceptances and upcoming interviews!
Was today the first day of acceptances??
Congratulations @redyellowblue and @momworried!
It is kind of interesting to see Texas schools issuing admissions to OOS students today while holding up in state for Nov 15th. The best one I noticed was someone in SDN saying they attended interview on October 9th and got an admission today from UT Houston. D finished all tx interviews by mid Sept!
