@stella123 that’s something you should discuss with your counselor if it interests you.
Got the transfer brochure for 2016 in the mail yesterday. Nice to see the admit rate going up? 30%
Just submitted my application today. Anybody applying as a Computer Science major?
@lindseyyhill1 I don’t know if it is important since I got in without having any part of the foreign language requirement done at all. I just planned on taking all 3 language courses at SC. (I’m a Sociology major)
@amessi12 30% transfer admit rate is a welcomed depart from the freshman’s!
@TayDee no, but if I get in, I plan to minor in CS
Just created my account. I’m going to send my transcripts once Fall semester is over in about two weeks and am able to register for spring.
Is admission based off a rolling basis? As in it’s more advantageous to apply early in this cycle then later? Thanks in advance!
@eespos1 There’s usually a pattern in that certain schools will hear first, but other than that, it’s pretty random. I submitted my application quite early last year and I didn’t hear about my decision until a few days after what was supposed to be the final day to hear back. On the other hand, I recall a poster that submitted his app the absolute last day and he heard back way before me. I always think it’s nice to apply sooner rather than later though in case an admissions counselor sees that you are missing anything.
@zettasyntax Thank you for the information!
Hey everyone! Really looking forward to applying to USC, and watching everyone else here go through the process! Glad to see there are other USC hopefuls on here as well. I’ve applied to several other schools, but USC is my dream school so naturally I am really nervous lol
As one of the small number of spring admits from last year’s cycle, I finally got to go orientation today. It was really fun. Oddly enough, the marching band was my favorite part of the day I was also amazed at how easy it was to enroll in classes. I was going to attend UCLA and even went to their orientation, but they basically told me what courses I could take and that turned me off so much that it really helped in my decision to suck it up and deal with being a spring admit
@zettasyntax gotta love the level of autonomy that private institutions offer! Not to mention there’s none of that impacted majors stuff. Do you know how many semesters it’s gonna take you to graduate?
Any other Annenberg Junior Transfer Applicants?
@zettasyntax I also went to orientation today!!! It was GREAT. The advisers were so helpful and lovely! Aren’t you also a Sociology major? Did we meet? Hahaha
Hey, I know I need some prerequisites . I have completed all of them except for calculus. I am currently at glendale community college CA. I will have completed College Algebra by the end of the 2016 spring semester. Before I can do that I have to take regular Algebra in the winter which doesn’t give me any credit. So as you can tell my math skills arent very good. The USC transfer prerequisites say I need to take calculus. Do I manditorily have to take it at a CC or do I have a chance of getting accepted and taking it at USC? Oh, I couldn’t find out if some of the maths from my CC would transfer
Thanks
@trojanwoman I definitely need 4 semesters to graduate, but I intend to take summer classes in hopes of graduating with the spring 2017 batch of students like I would have if I had started fall 2015 My schedule was almost perfect. That’s something I couldn’t say about UCLA. I was forced to take a random elective that had a name like Hispanic Geography. I suppose I could have changed, but advisers didn’t really hover over me and force me to take a certain schedule.
@mochibbycake Yes, I was accepted for my second choice of sociology, but I wanted to eventually switch into linguistics/computational linguistics, so I may have been extra shy around the advisers I think I only remember there being like 2 tables for sociology in that dining area place? Which one were you? I was at the table with one of the advisers, my parent, and one of the students at the table included a guy who said he was from the military. Maybe we were at the same table? I was the big Mexican dude in a red polo and pompadour like spiky hair in the front
Calc is taking a big toll on my GPA b/c of two deaths with family and a friend right around the midterm/3rd q. All of the other classes are good this semester. Think it’s explainable?
I know I made a thread, but maybe someone on here wants to chance me? Thanks a ton guys! I really want to get in!
Applying Fall 2015 to USC Marshall Pre-Accounting. Thank you for taking the time to read this!
Community College GPA: 3.59
USC Transferable GPA: 3.73
Units Completed: 59 (CC) / 48 (USC Transferable)
Units in Progress: 16 (CC) / 13 (USC Transferable)
Pre Reqs Completed: Business Calc, 2nd Semester English Honors, Financial and Managerial Accounting (Received A’s in all)
GEs Completed: Missing one of them after spring
Job: Worked (now currently manage) at my family’s pizzeria since freshman year of high school and a tutoring job at my college my third year (this year)
ECs: Secretary of Volunteer club in high school
Letters of Recommendation: 1 from my accounting professor (maybe one from my biology and/or calc professor too)
Comments: I have two Ws one from a philosophy class over the summer and one was last spring in pre-calculus. I also went below 12 units when I dropped pre calc (and received the W) and I had 10 units the semester before, but I am explaining that it was incredibly difficult to get classes because I wasn’t in the honors program at that time and didn’t get priority registration.
@amessi12 Definitely. I don’t think USC would reject you over one bad grade. If you’re on the verge of getting a failing grade though, maybe taking a W would be a better option if there’s still time to do such a thing. I had a health scare the semester before I successfully transferred to USC and it resulted in my first W. I didn’t talk about it too much, but I just mentioned that I was having heart problems and that I would not have dropped a course otherwise.
@chaseguy750 I think you’ve got a great shot. Your GPA is a little above the average and your EC’s are way better than mine were when I applied. I didn’t apply to the business school, but I’m still pretty impressed I was missing two GE’s when I applied, so you’ve also got me beat there. Finally, I don’t think they place as great a great deal of emphasis on semester load as I thought, hah. I took a 21 unit semester and a 10 unit winter semester (the max for winter was only 5 units, so I needed permission for that) and I wound up being rejected that year. I think as long as you were close to full-time, it shouldn’t be the biggest deal. The only thing I could say is try to have an awesome semester and finish on the highest note you can
Hi all, can someone clarify this for me? My question pertains to the general education requirements. Is it that we have to finish all the requirements to be considered as a transfer student or is it like many colleges where you have until graduation to finish GE classes? Also are there specific classes that I have to take (i.e. major specific) for admission?
