@zettasyntax I have seen people get into PPD with like a 3.1 gpa before that’s why I asked. Although my GPA is higher than that, I feel like having an instructor who genuinely believes in you and is invested in your college career writing a recommendation should really do a lot for an application, you know?
@JC10202010 I think applying as Econ would still be a great choice for you because Business and Econ are both very similar in ways especially in terms of what kind of jobs those majors end up in. Econ majors are usually interested in investment banking or finance and it seems like a lot of business majors have interests in consulting, entrepreneurship, etc. Business is quite broad while Econ is more specific. Take a look at each curriculum and compare what kind of classes you have to take. If you still feel like Business Admin is for you then switch out of Econ into Business…that’s very common and no one will question you on that. Also, considering minoring in business because i’m pretty sure the Business minor is like 24 credit hours which should give you an excellent understanding of business concepts. Take advantage of other opportunities within the realm of the Marshall Business school like the business clubs and investing society. Greek life is also a great way to make connections. The business connections you can make at USC are unreal so don’t think that just because you aren’t a business administration major you’re doomed haha
@poisonx Hi I am applying as a sophomore to Marshall and was wondering if you are looking into getting internships. Does being a transfer put you at a disadvantage when applying to internships because you don’t have an established GPA from USC? Thanks!
Does anyone know how grades are reviewed for students transferring from a quarter system? I’m taking my last GE class during my Winter term, but the class won’t end until March. Will I need to resubmit my transcript twice, once after the Winter quarter ends in March, and again after the Spring quarter ends in June?
@qwality2953 Yeah, definitely send in that winter term so they can see your most recent GPA and the classes you have taken. By the time your spring quarter ends in June you would most likely have a decision (if not, then submit that too)…give them everything you can that may help your application.
@mochibbycake I am in the same scenario as you (check my latest post if you would like) and was wondering how you explained the poor grade because of personal issues. How/where did you explain it? Did you switch majors once you were accepted?
@amessi12 There is an additional comments section to explain it. Just be straight forward with what happened; don’t make it sound like you’re asking for pity. I emailed my admissions counselor a couple of weeks after getting the SGR that I am finding myself more interested in pursuing Sociology than Business/Econ and if it’s possible for me to switch later if admitted. She replied saying that she will indicate my interest in Sociology on my app. Then I got accepted as Sociology.
Would these be good excuses for getting W’s? I got one in Spring of 2015 in Pre-Calc and one in philosophy summer of 2015. I got an A in business Calc so it’s obvious I can do math.
Excuse for Pre Calc: Barely passed trigonometry (got a C) and had trouble grasping the concepts in pre calc. Spent countless hours receiving tutoring and attempting to learn the material. Although I was passing, I felt I should withdraw because I needed to understand the concepts more in order to be successful in calculus. I determined it was in my best interest to retake the class in order to be able to learn the material. I didn’t end up retaking the class because a counselor informed me of a different route to take business calculus and felt it would be a better fit for me.
Excuse for Philosophy: I was taking college algebra (a pre req for business calc) and philosophy in the second summer session. A few people quit at my families pizza place that I am one of the managers at and I had to help them out and pick up many more hours. I was also led to believe that I needed that class as a pre req for some schools and was wrong so I didn’t need it. I decided it was in my best interest to withdraw from philosophy because I didn’t need it and couldn’t put the effort in needed to learning the material with the extra hours I spent at work and on my college algebra class.
Hello everyone,
I’m applying for Fall 2016 admission.
I attended a CSU after high school but did very poorly and dropped out after one year. I received two Ws and was placed on academic probation.
I then took one year off and returned to school at a CCC.
I’m planning to transfer as a dual major in Kinesiology and Linguistics.
I recently took college seriously in Spring 2015, and currently have a 3.89 GPA. I have shown a huge upward trend now compared to my first year of college.
If all goes as planned, I will have a 3.95 GPA at the end of summer before enrolling at USC (if accepted), with all GEs finished except 1.
I have 2 letters of recommendation from two of my professors as well, and I have a whole list of ECs, including volunteering at USC Fit Families.
What do you guys think about my chances of being accepted for Fall Admission?
Also, one more question:
Are transcripts due at the time you send in your application, or can they be sent at a later date?
Any info would help me greatly.
@chaseguy750
In my opinion, I think they are logical to me; you did end up taking business calculus, and if you don’t need the philosophy or the pre-cal, I think you should be okay. I’m not quite sure how admissions counselors think, but I have a few W’s too, so don’t feel too bad! I’m in the same boat.
Maybe you can PM @piano1900 and ask how he/she explained the Ws?
Also, your GPA is above average, and although you dropped below 12 units, as long as you have taken full-time rigorous work throughout your whole college career, I believe you are a likely candidate.
Good luck to you, as I am trying to transfer next Fall as well!
We can do it!
I was watching a video on youtube called “Transferring to USC” and they mentioned that transcripts have to be submitted but they don’t say when or how. Anyone know?
I don’t remember having an “deadline” for the transcripts when I applied last year, but I sent my transcripts after I submitted my CommonApp. Hope that helps!
Hey guys! All of you seem to be talented individuals, I wish you guys the best!
I’m a Freshman at Emory University and am looking to Transfer to Keck for their Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Major. (The closest thing Emory has to a public health related undergraduate major is a global health minor)
I’m really interested in the Public Health related curriculum USC offers,
is anyone else looking into this particular major?
College GPA: 4.0 (Pre-Med Focus)
High School GPA: 3.87 (UW) 4.2 (W)
SAT: 2190 (2210 Super-score… if they even super-score lol)
Extracurriculars pretty solid: mainly research, clinical volunteering, and residence hall involvement
I’m nervous about my essays but they should come out alright
Recs should be fine
What do y’all think?
PS: I’m originally from Northern California (If that matters at all)
@TheTank00@chaseguy750
Hi guys, I asked an admissions counselor and this is what he told me:
" You only need to submit your Common App with USC Supplement by Feb 1st. You can wait until winter grades come in to send your college transcript. You can have your final high school transcript sent at any time, but it would be good to get it in by Feb 1st. "
Hey guys! I’m new to this forum thing and I’m not quite sure that I’m doing it correctly so bear with me. I am applying as a sophomore transfer for the fall of 2016 and I was hoping you guys could give me an idea of what you think my chances are
Major: Relgion with a focus in Judaic studies
Current school: university of Memphis
Current GPA:3.84
Credits: 13 from fall semester and currently enrolled in 19 for the spring
High school GPA:4.33
EC: internship Facing History and ourselves and babysitter at local Jewish community center
Gen eds and prerecs: will have 2 out of 3 semesters of foreign language completed by the fall semester as well as two semesters of English composition. I will also have taken two introductory Judaic studies courses.
Thank y’all so much and if there is any information I left out that could help you assess my chances better, please let me know! Xxx
PS. My region advisor told me that since I’ll have 30 credits by the fall I don’t need to submit my act scores especially since I didn’t take it with writing. Thoughts?
