@penntousc Yeah I have been looking for classes that will satisfy my GE, but I think a lot of my ap credit can be used as GEs as well. But I still need 1 arts, 2 humanistic inquiry and 1 social analysis I think.
@stahboy yeah, I know a lot of students use AP credits for the GE curriculum so that would probably work.
Does anyone know what part of USC’s GE curriculum Introduction to Psychology fulfills? On USC’s course catalog website, it has an L and a g next to PSYC 100 so it looks like PSYC100Lg which means that it fulfills a GE requirement because right underneath the course name it even says “this fulfills a GE requirement”. However, I am having a hard time finding out which part of their GE curriculum it fulfills. I got a 4 on the AP test and it says that I can substitute this class with my AP credit to fulfill the GE requirement.
@cassidylynnn pretty sure it would fulfill the life sciences requirement
@cassidylynnn you might have to email the counselor about that. Psych doesn’t have a lab component so I doubt it fulfills a science requirement. In fact my articulation agreement says that my intro to psychology fulfills no GEs lol…
@pomeranian4rich this is what I’m talking about. http://classes.usc.edu/term-20171/classes/psyc/ How it says that it fulfills the GE requirement yet I’m not sure which one. I applied to Michigan, and intro to psych at their school fulfills social sciences requirement, so I am guessing that the closest thing to that at USC would be the social analysis one, but they don’t have psych 100 listed in there. I just don’t get why they say that it fulfills a GE requirement on their website but then I can’t find it anywhere. I will probably just have to talk to my counselor about it I guess.
@cassidylynnn ah I see! I think it’s best to email the counselor about that for accuracy. I highly doubt it fulfills a science GE. All science GEs need a lab component with it.
Actually I just rechecked it. It has a lab component so it might actually fulfill a science GE.
@cassidylynnn @pomeranian4rich might not have a lab portion but physical anthropology is the study of human psychological and biological properties and their development, and that is listed as an example under life sciences, so psychology would without a doubt fit in that category… definitely might not fulfill anything though because I do know that intro to psych does not transfer well to USC AT ALL, I recall some psych majors applying last year with that course and most or all either didn’t get or their course didn’t transfer
Then again, lots of those applicants were psych majors and so it’s no surprise that it wouldn’t transfer because that would be no different than me taking “intro to business” at my CC and expecting it to transfer, so in terms of credit and GE fulfillment, it still might work.
@penntousc yeah I took AP Psych in high school and got a 4 on the AP test. On USC’s website, it says that you can substitute their Intro to Psych course with AP credit if you get a 4-5 on the AP Psych test. It is nice to know that intro to Psych is a GE course at USC. I just wish I knew what type of GE course it was haha. That’s weird though that other people have a hard time transferring the course over.
@cassidylynnn like I said again. Email a counselor to find out which it satisfy if you aren’t sure. It wouldn’t hurt to try
Another quick question under the tab that suggests pre-med and ext. what does someone like my who is business admin\ Econ major put???
@Pantafootball I selected pre-accounting because that was the only business related option
@pantafootball You don’t need to fill that part out. i believe it’s optional.
Does USC factor Winter Grades when calculating GPA? I took two classes this winter, looks like I will be getting A’s but the last day of the semester is February 9th. Application is due on the 1st of February.
@Blue&Gold12 if they send you a spring grade request, they will consider your winter grades which would be on your final transcript. I also think it is possible to simply send your transcript in once those grades are finalized, since they really don’t begin to review transfer applications until late March/April.
Im currently sitting at a 3.5 GPA. Im applying for Political Science, I have great ECs. I used to be the Volunteer President while enlisted in the United States Navy. I had take 3 classes while I was 19 and averaged a 2.6 until I came back from deployment and took school more seriously. Since then I have taken 11 classes averaging a 3.81 GPA, as well as a 3.75 in my Pre-Reqs. Would this upward trend be competitive or would the OVERALL 3.5 GPA ultimately be the deciding factor?
@Blue&Gold12 they’re really going to like the upward trend so that will really help, but it will all come down to how much of the GE curriculum you’ve completed. GE’s are probably the most important thing to focus on, along with major pre-reqs and the writing requirement.
Do you guys think the three words to describe yourself quick takes are supposed to be serious or can we put something funny or light hearted?
@USofAwesome it’s up to your interpretation. Take it seriously or as funny as you want. But be genuine with your answers. That’s what USC looks for: Genuinity
I, for example, used some emoji characters in my answer. It defines who I am
If you have any unique characteristic style, let them know.
