2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

@nyctransfer2020 I believe they look for overall consistency. USC typically likes to see two years of full-time college coursework with mostly A’s or B’s. When I applied the first time, I had a 4.0. Didn’t get in that year. The next time I applied, I had a fresh B :stuck_out_tongue: so that 4.0 was long gone. I also managed to get a W (which USC tends to dislike). However, I got in the second time around despite technically doing worse than the first time I applied :stuck_out_tongue: As long as your grades haven’t experienced a drastic decline, I think you’re good

Is USC your dream school? Would you want a step-by-step guide to increase your chances of acceptance to USC?

is anyone applying from a university? My first year was at CC’s, but I am a four year now LOL… still want to be somewhere else though

Major: Computer Engineering

GPA: 3.68 right now, 3.74 (If I finish current semester with Straight As, which looks likely)*

Current units: 64 after this semester

Current Institution: Broward College (Community College in Florida)

Clubs/Organization: Technology Club, PTK, Engineering Club**

Courses in progress: Physics w/Calc I, Calculus II, Psychology

*My first semester of college was at a four year, I had a much easier course load and a completely different major. Due to personal and family issues, my mind was elsewhere and I finished with a 1.6 GPA. I’ve gotten straight As ever since. So my GPA is potentially misleading to anyone reading this to compare.

**I have far more ECs from HS and my first University, but I’ve been busy at home taking care of family ever since coming to Community College and haven’t had time to participate in a ton of ECs.

I’m planning on applying after this semester ends. A few Viterbi students recommended I apply after I finish Calc II.

How does running your own business look as an EC?

@usc2563 I remember you from last year’s thread! What has been your experience at USC thus far? Is it everything you hoped it would be? Anything you dislike now that you’re a student?

Hi
I am a second year student in UC Irvine. CS transfer this year. Usually what do Viterbi look at? I have taken a punch of math and physics courses. Have a B in Writing , a Pass in Political Science, Overall it’s 3.922 GPA.
Do I get a chance?

Hello! Currently a freshman at a 4-year private university, planning to transfer to USC for Fall 2018 as a sophomore for their School of Cinematic Arts. Debating if I should go in as a Cinema Studies major or Film Production major, considering the fact that Film Production is one of the only majors where you need 48 credits instead of 30 credits to be considered a transfer applicant. Good luck to everyone!

Hi, I’m currently a student at UCSD a 2nd year to be precise and I want to transfer to USC. I am taking a class and the highest grade I can get is an 83% that’s if I ace the final. My question is that I wanted to drop the course and get a W but retake the course next quarter. I wanted advice on what I should do. The other problem is that if I continue and get a C, then my GPA will drop dramatically. Please help me!

just out of curiosity, has anyone started on their common app ? i just signed back into mine realizing now I only have 2 months !

I am applying to the school of marshall but am debating whether or not it is a good idea because the only pre-req I’m missing is calculus. Any advice?

Does anybody know if they look at non-transferable courses?

@journalisticjay my daughter just submitted commonapp yesterday. Didnt want it hanging over her head during winter break. She applied to Annenberg as comm maj. Left high school after 10th grade ( 3.85gpa) with CHSPE certificate and started community college at 16 almost 17 yrs old. . She has 4.0. Will have 52 units at end of spring. All transfer to USC. And has foreign language req fufilled. 2nd choice major sociology.

Applying as: Accounting major at USC as International Transfer (Jr)

College:
1.Out of State University for a year (33 credits GPA: 3.83, directly got admitted into the business school, top ten undergrad business program in U.S.)
2. Summer - Out of State cc to knock off Micro and Macro (6 credits GPA 4.0)
3. Californian community college - De Anza (will be completing 50 qtr units in total before Fall 18, which is approx. 33 credits… GPA this Fall quarter: 4.0 which completed 15 qtr units)

So at the end of the deadline, my cumulative will be 3.8-3.9ish, bringing 72 by the Fall 18 but when the application is due, it will be 49 credits.

English Proficiency - TOEFL and SAT: not submitting, got an A+ from EWRT 1A (oos school from #1) and 1B (De Anza)

@Rickyandmorty im wondering about this too!! so I can choose classes for next semester…

Does legacy affect transfer acceptance?

@jwang0522 Yes! it does if you have it - it’s basically nothing, but like a priority listing. You’re chance is like a bit slightly better than others. However this depend on the major and impact of applicants. If you don’t have it it nothing bad or ruins your chance of acceptance.

Yes! They look at “non-transferable” courses just like a lot of private universities. They also look to see what classes from previous students who may have transfered from your school as well years ahead to see. As for very specific “niche” classes that serve as electives at your current uni. That is up to USC and you can potentially argue for it to give you elective credit. I am at a 4 year private school in nyc and I had to argue for some of my classes from a CC to be given credit by my sophmore dean by using syllabuses and ect… It all depends, but it never hurts to ask further more.

Hey guys! I’m worried my chances of transferring at USC aren’t great, but if anybody could tell me if there’s hope that’d be awesome.
I’d be transferring from UC Santa Barbara, a four year, with a 3.56 GPA and I am a part of a few great organizations on campus that suit my career path! I also can get some good recs from alum if that means anything!

  • I also took 8 APs in high school and passed them all
  • Got a 28 on my ACT
  • Had a weighted 4.33 GPA/3.92 Unweighted In HS
  • Participated in a ton of volunteer + academic clubs in HS
  • I can also write extremely strong personal statements that really reflect who I am and what I stand for

So, is it worth a shot applying? Will they be understanding of the slightly low college GPA because I go to a competitive four year?
Thanks to whoever provides some input!

Oh and also: I’d be applying as a political science major and probably public policy as my backup
