2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

@huntrontheprowl hey man, I also went to SB for a while before I transferred to another institution. honestly, it really depends on the GE courses and prereqs you have taken. USC emphasizes to finish as many as you can before transferring so you can solely focus on your major courses. in regards to your stats, if you have more than 30 units they won’t look at your high school record and only on your coursework at UCSB. the average transfer GPA is 3.7, so you’re right around there. to be honest, they don’t really focus on EC work, mainly on your college coursework. hope it helps.

^^^Exactly what @Vesper7 said, nailed it.

What do you guys think my chances are (be honest plz)

Location : Pasadena City College, Los Angeles
Ethnicity: Latino
First generation American and first college student in my family
GPA: 3.65, took 16 units a semester (hopefully 3.7 after winter session) currently have 56 units and will have 60 by the time I transfer

Will have completed all Ge’s and major prerequisites by the time I transfer
Majoring in international relations (Dornsife) Minoring in Russian

Extracurriculars/ other stuff
In Pathways program that participates in on campus volunteer work
Awarded stipend by the NSA to complete a Russian immersion program at the California State University of Northridge last summer
Volunteer wrestling coach at my local high school
Will intern in DC this summer for International affairs and attend classes at George Washington University

Work:
Restaurant manager all year round averaged 20-30 hours a week
Summer property management of private USC student housing
Local Little League management

@Vesper7 I actually does thanks! Do you think they’ll consider my GPA with my grades from this upcoming winter quarter? I’m taking a slightly lighter course which will help me focus on getting all As to bump up my gpa. Is there a page I can check what I should have complete? I tested out of a lot of prereqs like English, science, and language already and I took an arts class at Ucsb… I know that’s a lot but thanks

The general ed requirements on the website. I assume you read every page of their Transfer Guide, if not, do so - everything is in here:

Hey guys, I was wondering if USC admits a student who does not meet their English proficiency requirement? I got a 95 for TOEFL iBT and the minimum requirement is 100. I’m confused because it also says on the website that:

“Applicants may still be admitted without these minimum scores. For those who do not demonstrate English proficiency, however, USC requires the International Student Exam (ISE) prior to registration for classes. The results of the ISE determine whether or not a student must enroll in English language courses at the American Language Institute (ALI) at USC”

I don’t know if I should retake the exam or just submit my score. I’m working so hard to maintain my 4.0 GPA, but I’m worried that my TOEFL score might affect my admission decision.

Hey guys , i have a question. I have all a’s this semester except in english i got a c- because i slacked off but what should i do? isnt it even worth still applying ? i calculated my gpa that came out as a 3.5; it makes me really sad because I was doing so well and i had one bad week that i have just not been able to recover from. i really think this will hurt my chances of ever getting in now. i need someone’s input/suggestions.

does anyone know how competitive transferring to annenberg is and what they look for in applicants? i’m applying from a 4-year private in CA and i’m currently majoring in public relations, and applying for the public relations major at USC. i’ve done coursework in PR and PR internships; do you think this will boost my application?

I’m so nervous! Last year, I was not accepted to the Anthropology major, however, I have managed to raise my GPA, get more experience in my major classes, and get more involved. Was so close to giving up, but decided I’d stay strong and apply one last time!

Major: Anthropology
Current School: CCC American River College
Current GPA: 3.65 (Hope to raise to 3.7 next semester)
HS GPA: Low 2.0 (Did very bad in high school, managed to work very hard in cc so I can write that in my application).
Extracurriculars: Volunteering with the Anthro dept., Involved with Asian American Club, Kathak classical dance.
Work Experience: Worked at my current school, planning to get a job next semester.
Research Experience: Currently working on Anthro Research which I’m going to present shortly in Spring.
*I have completed all my required English, Math, GE, and a large amount of major classes. Spring 2018 will be a breeze.
~66-67 transferable units in total.

Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Asian Indian
*First Generation American

@journalisticjay
I think you should still apply. A 3.5 GPA is not bad I know people who have gotten a 3.3-3.5 GPA and have gotten in. How about you give us some other stats? For example, What is the major you are applying for? Are you going to applying as a sophomore or a Junior Transfer? How many of the GE’s the core literacies have you finished and will be in progress at the time you apply? If your intended major requires some major prep classes how many of those have you completed/ will be in progress? Can you get a professor to write you a letter of rec to show that you are indeed a great student?

Also dont be discouraged. I am in the same position as you really, I have a 3.58 overall GPA as of right now after the fall semester, I got a C in Gen Chem 1 but an A in Human Physio and an A in Intro to Philosophy but it was because of an issue in my family and I will be explaining that in my app. But in addition to that GPA I will have completed 5/6 Core literacies and the Global perspectives requirement and 3/4 major requirement classes. And if I get all A’s in my planned courses then I will end up with a 3.70 GPA which I am planning on doing.

I read about two people who got Rejected and one had a 3.33 gpa at the time of rejection but filed for an appeal and had managed to take 18 units and get all A’s and brought their GPA up to a 3.56 and they got accepted.

So just read through what I said earlier about providing more info about your major and how many of the GE’s youll have done as well as how many prep classes you’ll have done for your intended major. Don’t be discouraged at all!!!

Hi everyone Im planning on transferring USC please be brutally honest with chances

Hi everyone. I’ve got two questions filling the application. I’m confused the Addition Forms session. Does it mean we need to ask the counselors to mail those forms to USC admission office?

By the way, does usc accept other recommendation than academic ones? I did an intern and hoping to get a letter of rec.

Hope everyone is enjoying the break!

@mcspns511

I’m also a second-language speaker! I think you have a good chance getting in, especially with your 4.0 gpa (wow)! But you may need to take additional English courses after you got into USC. Just my understanding. I wouldn’t stress much about it. Maybe take it again if you have time, 95 you are almost there!

@clairen I do believe that you can have letters of rec that are not strictly academic ones. I honestly think that if you can get a academic and nonacademic one that would be wonderful ! Hope that helps

@GxBearrr
Got it, that’s really helpful! Thank you!

Hi everyone! I am applying as a sophomore level transfer.
Stats: Current GPA 4.0, HS GPA 4.26 rank top 30% SAT 1490/1600.
Ecs: Work for a company doing IT (second job in IT)
Sorority
Association of Women in Computing
Essays: 6-8/10
Applying for CS.

Anyone want to read my supplements? Pm me if interested.

Transfer junior level (~70 credits)

HS work not considered at junior level I’m guessing?

First choice: Business (Accounting)
Second: Sociology

Cumulative transfer GPA: 3.9

Calculus I: A
English I & II: A, A
Statistics: A
Microecon: A
Macroecon: A
Intro to Sociology: A
Financial Accounting: B

All electives straight A’s except for Financial Accounting. Nothing for justification but it’s just because I overloaded myself by taking 7 classes in Fall (total of 24 credit hours). I’m hoping that the workload I challenged myself with will be also taken into consideration. I managed to get ~70 transferrable credits within 3 regular semesters + summer.

Community service over 100 hours.

Did not take SAT/ACT.

Greetings from Chicago!

Jake

can we send official transcripts electronically or does it have to be by mail?
