2019 BFA Audition and Interview dates

The presceeen link on Get Acceptd for CCU is now open and accepting applications. I can’t link it through CC but google should bring you there.

Review of the screening auditions will begin August 20, 2018 and will be closed February 10, 2018. Our campus auditions are slotted for January 19, January 20, February 2 and February 23. CCU will also be at Chicago Unifieds.

“Welcome to the pre-screening website for the Coastal Carolina University B.F.A. Theatre Arts program with concentrations in Musical Theatre, Acting, Physical Theatre and Design & Production. We have begun accepting auditions for the fall 2019 incoming class.

All students who are interested in being considered for the B.F.A. theatre performance programs at CCU must complete a pre-screening process either by video or regional audition followed by a final audition at Coastal Carolina University.

Auditions for B.F.A. performance majors involve a two-step process. If passed through the pre-screen by our faculty you will receive an invitation to register for an all-day campus audition or, if those dates are not possible in your schedule, to our auditions in Chicago. You need not apply to Coastal Carolina University until you have completed the pre-screening and have been invited to either of these final audition locations.

To begin the process through Acceptd, choose “Bachelor of Fine Arts” in the Program menu, then choose the specific program for which you intend to apply. Should you wish to apply to more than one B.F.A. program you need to complete the process for each program (e.g. once for Acting, once for Musical Theatre.) You will be taken to a page where you can upload your headshot, resume, and video clips.

Potential B.F.A. Acting students, please submit two contrasting monologues. The two selections must not exceed three minutes and must be from published plays.

Potential B.F.A. Musical Theatre students, please submit 16 bars of 2 contrasting styles taken from the musical theatre repertory with one selection from the classical musical theatre canon, preferably pre-1960. One monologue from a published play not to exceed one minute. The entire audition should not exceed three minutes. If dance is a strength, please submit a short routine that highlights your ability in this arena. Any dance submitted will not be counted in the time limit.

Potential B.F.A. Physical Theatre students should follow the acting guidelines with one of their two pieces highlighting physical ability. The selections should not exceed three minutes.

In the “Bio” text box, please tell us something about yourself and your point of view as it relates to the art of theatre and training as a young theatre artist.

Review of the screening auditions will begin August 20, 2018 and will be closed February 10, 2018. Our campus auditions are slotted for January 19, January 20, February 2 and February 23. Audition slots are on a first come, first served basis and space for those is competitive so we recommend that you submit early. If you have not been notified within two weeks of your video submission please contact the Coordinator of Recruitment, Monica Bell at mbell(at)coastal.edu.

Students interested in applying and interviewing for the B.F.A. in Design & Technology only, please contact our Department Chair, and Professor Kenneth J. Martin at kmartin(at)coastal.edu for further information regarding that interview process.

Thank You.”

Any idea what the anticipated number of pre-screens will be compared to audition slots?

@afterp89 - I am not sure what the amount of pre-screens have been in the last few years. I do know that they limit on campus auditions/interviews to (typically) 30 potential students a session. This year, there will be 4 on-campus auditions, meaning 120 slots. We always encourage folx to audition on campus as it’s a full day experience, very indicative of what studying at CCU would be like. However, we also usually see about approximately 100 students every year at Chicago Unifieds (who have also passed pre-screens).

Hope that helps!

@AlexaMT any ideas what dates they will be in Chicago?

@theatremom10 They are usually there the first 3 days.
