2019 Tulane EA/SCEA Decision Thread

@chris17mom‌

Absolutely. Some schools surprise you in a great way, some the other way. Just be prepared for either.

That’s what I figured. And he already has two great offers, from U of Alabama and our state school ASU, so we are in good shape. :slight_smile:

i understand Barrett Honors has a lot of good features.

Has anyone found out what happened to the extended deadline EA applicants? The results were supposed to have come out on the 31st.

Yes, we are very impressed with Barrett!

Good luck Tulane peeps! My son has a friend who applied at Tulane and just found out that he got the Presidential scholarship! So exciting! :slight_smile:

Hi :smile: I just registered to ask you wonderful people a question. I am an applicant from the extended deadline EA and I still have not heard from Tulane. Now I know my situation is a bit different since I am an international applicant and I have had some paper work delays but my admission counselor told me that I should hear from them soon and today I got this e-mail from the The Altman Program in International Studies and Business which said congrats on your acceptance but my gibson account did not change so I am very confused. I think that tihs mail probably means nothing but if anyone has had a similar experience I would appreciate the help :smiley: Thanks!

@bloggingblonde‌

That is odd. Never heard of that happening in the past. Could be a Gibson issue, one other person said they were having update problems, but they were not international.

All you can do is write (or call if the time difference permits) and talk directly with your admissions person. They should be able to get this straightened out for you. Nothing we can really tell you on this end. I am really curious about that Altman e-mail though. Was there somewhere on your application that asked if you were going to apply to special programs like Altman?

@bloggingblonde‌ I’m domestic but the same thing happened to me. Not sure what it means either

@burlypapers‌ @bloggingblonde‌ how did you already apply to the Altman program? It tells you to “wait to submit your application till when you are accepted to Tulane” and to “attest that you have been accepted to Tulane.”

Maybe, they thought you’ve already been accepted.

I’m an international single choice early applicant to Tulane too, and I’ve also applied through the extended deadline and haven’t heard back either.

@fallenchemist‌ is there any estimate of the dates the results for applicants of the extended deadlines come out?

@‌fallenchemist when asked which major would I choose I wrote that I would be interested in the Altman program that is all. The time difference is a bit big but If i get no other notification in the meanwhile I probably e-mail my counselor

@burlypapers I still think that this mail was just a mistake.

@imonmyway I talked about this matter with my admission counselor and he told me that these applications who have not jet been reviewed will be on the table before the RD or with them but we will probably receive a decision well before the regular decision notification deadline since we did apply earlier

@bloggingblonde‌ THANK YOU! It’s great to finally hear something about the matter.

But that’s about two to three months, isn’t it?

@imonmyway no problem, really! :slight_smile: I am glad I helped you. From the mail i got i conculded that we should have our decisions by february or at the beggining of february, although I might have interpreted something wrong?? All I know for sure is that he assured me that we will get our decisions way earlier then the RD-s.

@bloggingblonde‌ here’s hoping… thank you. :smile:

ACCEPTED

Just wanted to say to all the people skeptical about applying to Tulane to check my profile, I have a 2000 SAT and a 3.8 which means my admission could have gone either way really. But my 2 primary extracurriculars were really unique and I spent an insane amount of time making sure both essays really hit the point and I got my answer within 2 days and 80k total merit.

Major: Biology

State : Oregon (Highish ranked public high school)

REGULAR EARLY ACTION (Academic Achievement 20k annually)

Personal: Middle Eastern male

Objective:
ACT (breakdown): Didn’t take
SAT (breakdown: 720 Math / 660 Writing / 630 Reading
Weighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.8
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 20 %
AP/IB (place score in parentheses): Didn’t report any lol

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Audio engineering (I posted the link for the music I’ve made as well), Founder of an ethnic community chess club, aside from that, all your regular stuff such as Key Club ambassador, MUN committee chair, Classic Soccer, Dentist shadowing etc
Summer Activities: 70 hrs volunteering (200+ hours total)
Essays: Wrote why Tulane. Worked very hard on both an did phenomenally well on them as far as I can tell.
Teacher Recommendations: Very strong
Counselor Rec: Good (I believe)
Hooks: First generation college in US, unique hobby, very strong essays

@fallenchemist‌ And I know you’ve had no interaction with me on this forum because I’m a major lurker while never posting, but I just wanted to thank you. I’m still waiting to hear back from 9 schools, but Tulane is one of my top colleges and I’ve spent at least an hour each day for the past 3-4 months just researching things and reading peoples opinions. Obviously your name always comes up on the Tulane section and I’m always curious to read your comments, insights and opinions. Keep doing your thing man, you’ve helped me out a lot and I’m sure many people can testify to that.

@oregonottoman‌

Thank you so much for your kind remarks. They do mean a lot to me.

BTW, I have been to Oregon a number of times and it is one of my favorite places. The Columbia River Gorge is one of the most beautiful spots on earth, and the remarkable transition from the coastal climate to the desert is just stunning. I drove from Portland to Bend one time and coming over the mountains, at the peak it is like you fell asleep for 10 seconds and someone picked you up and moved you a hundred miles in an instant, the change is that sudden. I would love to get back there this summer.

Best of luck with your other applications. I would love to see you at Tulane, of course, but even more want to see you at the best school for you. But I know it is a great feeling to have one of your higher choices in the “yes” column. Congratulations on that, and the merit scholarship.

@Bengalmombengal – we are waiting. We were told that while all information was submitted in time the system
did not combine the information and the file was not submitted for review. The admissions person said they would ask for it to be reviewed ahead of the regular admission. I have not heard anything sense I was told that. We are checking daily until we hear different.

She was accepted today. Major hooting and squealing going on.

Deffered. Haven’t heard back? seems like they don’t care. blah

@ihopeicangetin‌

You might not hear until March 31. What made you think you would hear this soon?

Seeking advice, @fallenchemist and anyone else familiar with New Orleans. D has been invited to attend the Top Scholars program in March and we’ve booked our flight. Do you know anything about this program and what we should expect? Also, we’ll only have about a day and a half to explore the city outside of the on-campus program and we’ve never visited the area before. Do you a few suggestions of things we shouldn’t miss to really get a sense of what it would be like to attend Tulane? Can’t wait to experience New Orleans!
